To really like my MIL?

Ok she is my MIL to be as we get married next Thursday. But AIBU to think she is fabulous?

I think about 75% of MIL threads on here are about how awful they are and yes some of them are really really nasty horrible people. I know I had a few threads about my XMIL.

But my new one is lovely. She is really friendly, she's amazing with my 2 boys from first marriage, I think she will treat our baby exactly the same way she treats the boys, she's very helpful in many ways, one being asking if she could buy the pram for us.

Also both PILs to be are retired teachers and she worked mainly in primary schools and is always on the end of the phone or an email away to reassure me that DS1 is doing well in reception when I have a few worries about his reading etc.

In fact both MIL and FIL are lovely people, I love going to visit them and really wish we lived closer.

Am I just abnormal or does anyone else have a lovely MIL?

Yanbu. I love my mil too. Smile

I loved my MIL. She died last summer and I was genuinely heartbroken. That isn't to say we didn't have our fights but I fight with my mother too, just family, innit? My first MIL was a total bitch but her son was an arse so I should have avoided the whole family.

Yes clearly you are being unreasonable!!!!! Seriously though, you sound very lucky to have such a good relationship. My MIL isn't bad enough to complain about on here but I wouldn't ever choose to spend time with her or phone her, so cherish yours :-)

I have a lovely MiL too. I love going to see her and can chat about anything to her. In my case I don't have a great relationship with my own mother and MiL is kind of the mum I wished I had ...

I get on very well with mine too. I'll pop in and see her if I know she is in, regardless of whether I'm with DP or by myself. She only lives around the corner from us but is never intrusive, always rings to make sure its ok if she wants to pop in and say hello. I can have a laugh with her, we even feel comfortable talking about confidential stuff with each other. I've supported her with medical issues and she has helped us on a few occasions.

I think she is a lovely woman, I can see from many of threads on here that I'm very lucky.

good for you, it gives me hope Grin. there's far too much MIL bashing on MN. My MIL is ok, can't complain really so I don't. Wish i loved her like you do though, would be so much easier

Yanbu, mine is fab too - really friendly and lovely and supportive and always knows just the right thing to say when I'm having one of my insecure "am I doing this mummy thing right?!" moments. She's great Grin

supernannyisace · 28/03/2012 20:11

I go to the bingo with my mil

My only complaint is that we do not win enough... Ever in fact.

sometimesinthefall · 28/03/2012 21:14

Yanbu at all. I feel the same about mine today; she flew to our rescue this morning when my little boy woke up v unwell and my husband and I both had to go to work. We've had our moments in the past but today, I feel really lucky to have such devoted in laws.

MixedClassBaby · 28/03/2012 21:16
