The price due next month is ridiculous!
I am going to do everything i can to make our office post free. We can scan and email invoices now instead of posting.
36p up to 50p!!!

YANBU; it's an absurd price. The PO seem determined to put themselves out of business.

TheCrackFox · 28/03/2012 09:29

Is it going up next month?

Well it has given me the push to start doing all my banking online. I normally post a cheque to pay all my bills.

SunRaysthruClouds · 28/03/2012 09:30

I thought you were going to say you weren't going to post on MN any more and attract all the calls of 'flouncer' etc.

Actually I don't think we pay much now - the impact seems more because of the relative change in price. But I can understand in a business you would want to keep your costs down.

Apparently we have one of the cheapest postal services in Europe. I hate the way something so amazing as the Post Office is being denigrated. Being able to send and receive mail is an amazing resource and we should treasure it. Along with free roads and a free health service. But not everyone feels that way.

mich54321 · 28/03/2012 13:18

Agree with mayaswell. In the main the Royal Mail do a great job covering all of the UK - I wouldn't want to deliver a letter from Lands End to John O'Groats for 60p. I have knowledge of other countries postal systems, and believe me, we should be proud of our Royal Mail (and no I don't work for them !). Although I do think people will use e-mail / faxes more, I will do the same for non essential post items, but there has to be a cost for offering an universal service to every household in the UK on a largely next day service.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/03/2012 13:22

I think it's incredibly cheap and that we need to retain it as a resource so that those in remote areas don't end up forking out extra for the service. I think of this as a public and community service taht all of the Uk needs to benefit from.

I don't want a system where it's 20p in London to post something but a fiver in Northern Scotland.

As far as I'm concerned they can put it up to a £1.

BareBums · 28/03/2012 13:24

I love sending letters, pen pals etc but it's not done anymore so :( but I don't feel sorry for the PO, they're always rude when I have to deal with them. And they really killed off any love for them with their last strikes. I do feel sorry for those who rely on the mail and have no alternative though.

mummymeister · 28/03/2012 13:40

We used to post all our business post first class. then we switched to second class now we e mail everything all the time. it took a while to set it all up with databases and standard letters and bills but in the last 6 months we have saved over a £1000 and lots of time too. more people will do this for business post. with fb to keep in touch with friends and e mailing so easy i think the days of the postal service for business anyway feel a bit numbered.

wheredidiputit · 28/03/2012 14:50

YANBU.

I shall be stocking up on stamps before the price rises.
