hotel room banging noises

Hi All, i need quick advice really. DP and i are on a hol of a lifetime type trip in a veh posh hotel. The trouble is there is a banging (pipes?) coming from the wall. It is sporadic but tends to start at about 6ish and go on for a couple of hours. Or it is at about 11pm. Just when we are sleeping (i am pregnant so we came here for a rest before the baby).

We have complained but the engineers are only on site 11-4 so the banging has stopped by then. Also when it is banging we call down and someone says they will send someone up straight away - and they never arrive. So i have spent 2 days on and off sitting in our hotel room on mumsnet waiting.

They have offered us the only other room available (as it's spring break) but it isn't as nice. (ours has 2 by windows overlooking the mountains - the other has one small window and is half the size).

So what should i do? AIBU to expect something to be done? Any advice as i am not used to nice hotels and i don't want to be rude to the staff.

I woudl move rooms and ask for a reduced rate

cybbo · 25/03/2012 17:20

And you dont have to be rude but you can expect decent service for the money you ahve paid

:( i want our beautiful view tho - i know i can't have it all but i am really disappointed.

Stay put for views but ask for partial refund.

Make sure that if the noise isn't sorted by the time you leave then you have some kind of evidence (video on phone?) if you intend to claim money back. Exactly the same happened to us in a swish hotel and wasn't sorted before we left but then afterwards they sent us a reply saying they'd tested everything and it was all ok, basically insinuating we'd made it all up, knowing we couldn't go back there again to prove anything to them! The toilet made a horrendous noise when flushed, the people in the room next to us went mental each time we used the loo. I remember getting a rubbish night's sleep cos I needed a pee and didn't dare use the scarily loud loo in case we woke the whole hotel up!

Weell apparently the guests upstairs have also complained. SO that should go in our favour.

Not sure how to ask for money - i'd be happier doing it in writing after we left

'I'm not happy with the room we are in. I know you can move us to a smaller, cheaper room. What can you offer us in the way of a partial refund for the nuisance this has caused us?'

Spuddybean · 25/03/2012 18:28

The smaller room is not cheaper tho. They have said it is of equal value (the bathroom is much nicer). So it is either move or lump it. I think i would rather have the view as i am not skiing so spending a lot of time in the room reading, doing facials on mumsnet etc.

I thought from the title that this thread would be about something else entirely :o Blush

i could cope if it was that thank i love a good hotel shag! (mine or other peoples) - but sadly no :(
