To get on the bus through the back door

with my pram? I find it is easier so I don't bang people's legs, as a lot like to sit with their legs wide apart and don't always move them as you come down the aisle. My oldest daughter will take my oyster card, and get on through the front door and swipe it for me, so the trip is always paid for.

I'm asking because a grumpy bus driver shut the door on me as I was entering the bus and then told me off! I'm new to the country and not totally sure about bus etiquette. It's not a massive pram either- a 3 wheeler but one of the smallest ones you can get; and fits well with another one in the bay.

I don't know. I think you're probably supposed to get on via the driver's end.

Perhaps stand at the front end and ask the driver if you can nip through the back and then hop on that way?

it's stupid isn't it?
they put the buggy area half way down, but how are you supposed to get to it unless you get on the side doors???

Idocrazythings · 22/03/2012 17:17

Yes I might have to do that, every one just seems to be in such a rush here that you try to keep up the speed and not slow them down. I'm pretty sure he saw me though getting on, and I was already half way through the door when he closed it on me.

I agree with Hecate

FWIW the bus driver is probably sick of people sneaking on through the back doors trying to get a free ride. So I can understand their frustrsation. Your way sounds sensible but they are not to know you are an honest, selfless person Grin

some bus drivers are just idiots though.

i don't take the bus often tbh, but when i have i normally just shout to the driver to ask if it's ok to get on the back with the pushchair. as far as I can see, round here anyway, people with pushchairs generally do just get in the side doors otherwise you can't get your pushchair between the seats to the buggy area anyway.

but then it means you have to wait for everyone else to sit down before you can go and pay, which is odd too
