My boss has just phoned me to see he has only. Just left work at 7.30 because his meeting over ran?

Background story:

I'm a nanny, work Mon, Tues, Thurs and Friday 7-6.30 but this week MB has had to go away for work so asked if I could work today, I agreed as she is lovely and its a one off then DB asked if I could stay till 7.30 as he had a meeting so I agreed to that too as I'm here already so 1 more hour didn't matter!

My grandad had a heart attack at the weekend and although he is doing ok I haven't been sleeping well so I am tired otherwise I don't think I'd be overly bothered (probably annoyed but not want to cry), my DP works nights so it means I now won't see him at all and I just want to burst into tears.

I should be honest and say my bosses are usually lovely and in 3yrs this has never happened which is why I would usually not let it bother me and won't make a big deal out of it

But AIBU to think DB is majorly taking the piss and should have rang before the time he was due home? He is 50mins away from home btw

He's not really taking the piss, he probably got caught in the meeting and couldn't contact you. It's not like he just turned up late, he did call you and let you know that he was heading home.

You're not being unreasonable to be upset though, you sound under a lot of stress. Be gentle with yourself.

Oh poor you! It's crap communication skills on his part but it probably wouldn't have mattered enough if you hadn't been going through what you are. He would have found it hard to contact you in a meeting too. My dh sometimes rings at the time he's normally home to say he'll be late! He tries!
