to just want to be me?

I don't want to be a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a manager with various different hats or a Guider. I just want to be me. Just for a little while.

I'd like to transport myself to a grassy bank on Loch Linhe in Glen Coe and look at the mountains, watch the clouds move slowly over them. Watch the beautiful colours. Listen to the silence. Smell the clean air.

An hour would do. Then I'll come back. That's all. Not much to ask is it?

(I don't mind being a friend btw. There are at least two I know of, that are more in need than me!Grin)

I know exactly what you mean, I often find myself trying to negotiate between what numerous people want, to get a result they'll all accept, but think"why doesn't anyone wonder what I want?"

What I often want is to sit quietly and do some sewing, drinking team, listening to the radio with a view of my bird table. Not much really!

upahill · 20/03/2012 19:08

Well why don't you do that or similar then?

I often take myself up to the Howgills for my space.

Take an annual leave day and have time for yourself.

Yama · 20/03/2012 19:11

In a couple of weeks I'm taking a day off work. Dd into school club, ds into nursey and I'm ... well actually I've yet to decide. A whole day. Smile

MaureenMLove · 20/03/2012 19:13

Can't take annual leave unfortunately. I work in a school, so I've got to wait until next Friday, before I get 2 weeks off! I'd love to take tomorrow off, but I wouldn't dream of it!

I'm not at the end of my tether, just bloody exhausted! This term is always exhausting in secondary schools. It is at ours at least. That Feb half term, just doesn't refresh anybody.

I'm off sick this week due to a chest infection. Roll on next Friday when we have over 2 weeks off.

But I have made a point of making me me!

upahill · 20/03/2012 19:29

I've taken this week off - just because!!!

I had a week away with my mates the other week, had half term with DS2.

Had a couple of days last week as well and me and my friend went to Scotland for her 40th

Tomorrow I am either going to go up Catbells or go to the Yorkshire Dales and maybe go up Ingeborough.
Friday I am going to spend the whole day on my mountain bike! Don't know where yet, probably Garburn Pass.

I love days to myself

LabMonkey · 20/03/2012 20:11

Maureen are you me? Seriously I had this conversation with someone the other day when I realised my only non-mum/wife/work time was Guide time! I used to work in Glen Coe and now I'm doing my best to head North again.

If you're anywhere near there just go for a day - it always clears the cobwebs :)

heavydutyjudy · 20/03/2012 20:56

YANBU. One of the fri/mon bank holidays in May last year, the nursery was still open, so I kept one for myself and the other as an extra day for me and DS. The day I had to myself, it was a beautiful day. I walked up Tinto hill, had my packed lunch at the top, and it was fantastic. We all need these experiences whenever we can.

trixie123 · 20/03/2012 20:59

I had a day off last week with the kids in childcare. I just slept and pottered round the house but it was such a luxury to be able to do that and not be followed everywhere or clambered on constantly. I am sure everyone would cope so much better if they could do this once a month

MaureenMLove · 20/03/2012 21:15

Sadly Labmonkey, I am 500 sodding miles from Glen Coe! I love that place though.

I've decided for the short term however, my me time starts in about 10 mins - I'm going to bed! Grin

Ah, endoftermitis.

I think this half term is the worst. I'm counting down the days!

ComposHat · 20/03/2012 22:21

God, I don't want to be me. I've had 32 years of it. The bank thought I'd been a victim of identity theft and I was tempted to tell them they could keep it, I sure as hell didn't want it.

I would like to be...pretender to the throne of Dalmatia, a dredger Captain, a go go dancer, a senior administrative nurse or a clutch technician in Stevenage.

Magrathea · 20/03/2012 22:22

The headland on Lindisfarne looking out toward the navigation markers would be the one for me - ideally with a picnic :)
