Is an unlucky year. I have heard so many horrible things since 2012 started I am beginning to think the Mayans might be right.

its been the shittest year of my life so far

Tee2072 · 13/03/2012 10:35

Well the Mayans can't be right as they never said the world was going to end this year.

horsesforcourses1 · 13/03/2012 10:39

The Mayans predicted new beginnings ??. I don?t like new beginnings especially when it involves people dying, having brain tumours and other horrible things.

well, this time last year there had been a tsunami in Japan, several uprisings in North Africa etc and people were saying the world had gone mad etc. I think its just perception...Bad things have always happened, its just that with constant access to news through the internet, be it international news stories, or updates from friends and family, there is always something crap happening to someone.

Pusheed · 13/03/2012 10:43

The scholars had another think about the Mayan prediction and the latest theory is that the Mayans divided up their years in 400 year blocks in the same way we divide up the years into centuries.

So its a bit like us saying that things will come to an end in 1999 ..... and tomorrow it will be 2000. 2012 is when their 'century' ends as opposed to when the world ends.

As for 2012 being unlucky, DP just started in a new job on Monday which came with a very nice pay rise so New York/ Las Vegas, here we come. Woo Hoo!!!

Sorry OP :(

Yep you are right Pusheed (congrats on DH new job) I?m being silly 2012 is not unlucky these things do happen all the time.

When I was a kid the Cold War was in progress. Nuclear war, to many, was round the corner. Iraq and Iran were at war. The 'experts' were telling us that North Sea oil would run out soon. IRA would regular-ish bomb NI and the UK. Then there were the European terrorist groups Baader-Meinhoff, the Red Brigade etc. More recently there has been 9/11, the Gulf wars, the tsunnami a few Christmases ago, Huuicanne Katrina in the USA and the list goes on

Unfortunately horrible things happen all the time.

They say that scandal and suffering is what sells newspapers so that is why tend to get inundated with depressing stories as opposed to feel good stories.
