Love the programme but can't stand that midwife saying at the beginning "Ooh I'll ave one of those teacakes I like those teacakes! Probably just me!

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 12/03/2012 14:41

Huh?

Not seen it but why?

Is it the way she says it?
The fact she's eating teacakes?
The fact she's eating fullstop?

RightUpMyRue · 12/03/2012 14:41

She's my favourite.

ObiWan · 12/03/2012 14:47

She likes Bakewell tarts too, I think Grin.

It would be far more irritating if she was saying 'ooohh, not for me, they're so naughty ..'

ItWasThePenguins · 12/03/2012 14:59

I always watch it on catch up and skip the beginning.. it's far too long and boring!

catgirl1976 · 12/03/2012 15:00

TBH - They seem to do an huge amount of cake eating, to the point it looks like women in labour are just an annoying distraction from the main business of chomping custards tarts.

But I expect that's just the editing

fedupofnamechanging · 12/03/2012 15:09

When my best friend was in labour, all the midwives did was talk about who was on duty over Christmas (she was in labour on 22nd Dec). Now that was annoying - surprised my friend didn't deck someone. I know labour is everyday for them, but it wasn't for my friend.

Was glad she didn't deck the doctor moaning about house prices though - he was my neighbour and our kids were in the same class at school!

Bue · 12/03/2012 15:44

I don't think it would be nearly so annoying if they didn't show the same clip every week or if they ever showed that midwife doing a bit of work!

I think the producers have just edited it like this to get us riled up. Seems to be working! :)

Sallykitten · 12/03/2012 15:55

No it does my nut as well. It's really annoying.

jenfraggle · 12/03/2012 16:11

They show that clip every week as it is the opening credits. I can't think of any programmes where the credits change week by week.

ViviPru · 12/03/2012 16:16

I'm sick of them all dropping the 'The' from 'The baby's _ "

Purplehonesty · 12/03/2012 16:23

Yes we could do with a change of opening credits. The midwife who drinks comically from the enormous cup annoys me.

shagmundfreud · 12/03/2012 17:20

"The midwife who drinks comically from the enormous cup annoys me."

And me.

Don't know what it is about her. Could be that she reminds me a bit of me. Grin

OddBoots · 12/03/2012 17:27

Oh, but I need my weekly 'Don't panic, never panic'.

luvviemum · 12/03/2012 17:29

It gets on my tits the way that woman says "Don't panic, never panic!" at the beginning of the show each week.

Apart from that, I find it fascinating. A great series.

fullofregrets · 12/03/2012 17:32

They do panic if the cake and tea runs out though.

SnapesMistress · 12/03/2012 17:53

Its got better but in the first series they edited it to make the receptionist look like a massive idiot. That irritated me.

RightUpMyRue · 12/03/2012 18:01

Hmm, I find the "don't panic" woman annoying and the bit with the comedy cup annoying too but the teacake midwife is still my favourite.

sportsfanatic · 12/03/2012 18:36

When the opening credits start I keep waiting for a bomb to drop - that banshee woman in labour sounds like an air raid siren.

Lifeissweet · 12/03/2012 18:44

When I took DD to baby clinic this week, the HVs were all standing round eating cake and drinking tea talking about OBEM and how the midwives on the programme seem to spend a lot of time standing around drinking tea and they never get the chance to do that.

Irony. I had to conceal a smile.

Shutupanddrive · 12/03/2012 18:51

YANBU, teacake woman annoys me too. I quite like the one with the big mug though!

MrsChemist · 12/03/2012 18:54

I love big cup lady, but surely her brew would be cold by the end.

misdee · 12/03/2012 18:56

I want the big mug for when I give birth next month.

Anonymumous · 12/03/2012 19:41

I've GOT the big mug - DH bought it for me years ago! [smug, smug, smug!] Grin

MogTheForgetfulCat · 12/03/2012 19:59

But I want the big mug!
So I like big mug lady.
Not keen on "Don't panic, never panic" - she sounds shirty at first and then tries to correct herself so she sounds nicer, I think.
Think teacake lady is harmless Grin.

BrightnessFalls · 12/03/2012 20:03

It annoys me full stop. I don't know any midwife that actually watches it and I've never even seen them have time to sit down never mind eat cake.
