Dh has very kindly arranged for us to have a day/evening out for my birthday later on in the month. He has booked tickets of some description and arranged for MIl or SIL to have dc. Both reassurred him that one of them would definately have dc. Now it turns out they have received a wedding invite and are no longer able to babysit. Obv I understand a wedding is important but I am still feeling a little peeved.
DH has now told me that I will have to get my sister or someone else to babysit. Will be a full day and evening. AIBU to think that if I get my sis to do it I should pay her a nominal sum for "expenses". She does not work. Normally we do not pay relatives but she will be getting us out of a hole.

well you know, a wedding invite could be seen to kinda trump a birthday day out depending on the hosts' relationship to recipients of the invite

shrug, book your sister, move on

Wedding invitations are usually sent out 6 weeks or so in advance. They might quite reasonably have thought you'd have time to find an alternative.

I'd feel miffed, but agree that shrug and move on is the best approach now.
