I have a party coming up and would like to buy a nice dress (not too partylike though). To save going into my nearest town and trailing round shops, I've looked at websites only to find that everything is aimed at much younger poeple. Most hemlines are above the knee and there's very little in the way of sleeves.

I would like a size 14 with a hemline on my knee or just below. I would like a plain colour

I often have this problem as well.

I am mid twenties but don't like showing off my legs and have big boobs and I find it such a chore to find a suitable dress, it's a joke.

As you say they are all either really short or floor length or as I find, great if you are flat chested.

next have quite a few nice dresses at the moment, plain colours and have arms!

How about this??? I love it. It's slightly above your £50 (£55) limit but I think it's the sort of thing you'd get lots of wear out of.

Have you tried looking at some of the rockabilly and 50s inspired websites? A wiggle dress might suit you and be demure...

I struggled for a wedding recently and eventually found one on ebay. It was a risk but I thought I could resell it if it didn't fit.

The current fashion doesn't favour the shy but there are loads of nice things on ebay - still brand new.

Damsel in a dress

Thank you Tethersend. Damsel in a Dress website looks good. I will be going to John Lewis and Debenhams tomorrow and, judging by their websites, might find what I'm looking for. If I don't, it will be Damsel in a Dress for me.

I took about forty garments to a charity shop yesterday so have a lot less choice at home and my friends have seen all I have left over the last 20 years. Yes, some of them are that old but I like them.

OASIS have some lovely dresses in at the moment and most of them have capped sleeves. Plus ignore the fact they look short on the model. I'm 5ft5 and tried some on and they sit just on my knee.
