To be annoyed with the supermarket?

One of their own brands of pasta has gone from a cooking time of 5 mins to 11 mins with no warning. Same shape, same packaging and I didn't notice so had hideously undercooked pasta.

The bastards!

TidyDancer · 09/03/2012 23:44

Well you can't really be annoyed with a supermarket because you didn't read a label, can you?

WorraLiberty · 09/03/2012 23:45

Don't you taste it before you dish it up?

AllPastYears · 09/03/2012 23:58

You don't need to taste it, if it's only had half the cooking time it should get. Just look at it and you can tell!

DashingRedhead · 10/03/2012 00:37

I've been buying this one for YEARS - it was my default pasta choice. It suddenly just changed.

IABU - I know. I taste it when it's for the DCs but (luckily) the first time it was just for me and I didn't bother tasting because I thought I knew.

Eleven minutes? What sort of pasta needs that amount of time? It must taste like glurpy cardboard after that sort of treatment.

startail · 10/03/2012 01:58

11 minutes is the norm for pasta unless you've been buying quick cook and that's tasteless.
If you want it quicker noodles are better.

SophieNeveu · 10/03/2012 01:59

Did the label say new recipie? I would be annoyed about it and then put it on another six minutes, then not give another thought.

squeakytoy · 10/03/2012 07:32

surely you would be able to notice that it was undercooked as you drained it Confused and then cook it some more until it was ready..

cant say I have ever needed to read a label on pasta boiling, it is one of those things that you test and know when it is ready without needing a timer..
