OP posts:

YANBU

Sirzy · 07/03/2012 16:10

Yanbu!

greentown · 07/03/2012 16:11

YABU because that view is also shared by people of all beliefs, and indeed, quite often by people with religious beliefs.

oldmum42 · 07/03/2012 16:11

YABU - we don't have beliefs....

GrahamTribe · 07/03/2012 16:12

Of course they should.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/03/2012 16:13

Otw.

Hmm
mosschops30 · 07/03/2012 16:13

Yanbu i hate the threads on here that say 'my dd had to sing hymns today and im furious that shes being indoctrinated with religion'

Get over yourself! Ds1 went to a synagogue and a mosque with beavers and we're bloody catholic fgs, its not like hes going to be brainwashed.
Its all about learning, taking part, understanding others.
I tend not to go n the threads anymore it just drives me nuts

greentown · 07/03/2012 16:14

What's a 'mosque with beavers'? Is that some kind of sexy thing?

GrahamTribe · 07/03/2012 16:15

"Ds1 went to a synagogue and a mosque with beavers"

That's nothing mosschops. My DS went to a tabernacle with otters.

FryingNemo · 07/03/2012 16:20

Until I hear of atheists burning people at the stake, partaking in suicide bombings, stoning people etcetera I judge you UNreasonable.

fuzzpig · 07/03/2012 16:21

Thanks for that charming generalisation. Hmm

Atheists don't all impose their beliefs on others any more than all Christians do.

I am an atheist, I have never and will never believe in God (or rather I firmly I believe there is no God, which IMO is different). I am perfectly happy singing hymns, I will be very happy when there are school trips to places of worship of all religions and I will hopefully volunteer to go on them myself. Had our local school been a faith school then that would be fine too.

I don't like the threads you refer to either but we aren't all Richard Dawkins y'know!

eagerbeagle · 07/03/2012 16:21

YABU. Some atheists may think that, just as some Christians, Muslims, Jews, Pagans, insert belief or non-belief system of choice, may think like that.

Saying any one group has a monopoly on self righteousness is BU.

oldmum42 · 07/03/2012 16:27

MOSSCHOPS, you say....
Get over yourself! Ds1 went to a synagogue and a mosque with beavers and we're bloody catholic fgs, its not like hes going to be brainwashed.
Its all about learning, taking part, understanding others.
I tend not to go n the threads anymore it just drives me nuts

I get the point of what you are saying here (we are a non-religious family but our children went to re classes/religious school visits for educational value), how ever, I am laughing at this comment - you are saying you don't mind kids going to religious events of another stripe, then state you are catholic, it's not like hes going to be brainwashed???? I'm sorry, but raising your child to hold a particular religion as being the "correct" one, just on the grounds that he/she happened to be born to parents who practice that religion is brainwashing of a sort.

MrsWembley · 07/03/2012 16:33

Every bloody opinion programme seems to have a member of a faith, like that qualifies them to have an opinion over whatever; children and abuse, domestic violence, rioting in the streets of Britain.

And seriously, when I see bishops in places of power over my life JUST BECAUSE they are bishops, well... Angry it makes me even more cross when people bang on about hereditary lords but no-one mentions those unvoted for prigs.

Did you study to be a priest/whatever of any other faith? Then you know everything about everything and we need you to tell us what to do,

Hmm

So if you think that no-one cares about poor old Christians or whoever and their opinions in this country and that atheists should just shut up about their views, well...

FlossieTeacakeShouldFakeIt · 07/03/2012 16:35

YABU.

Sirzy · 07/03/2012 16:39

To those getting annoyed at the op, can I just point out this is a thread about a thread!

Elderberries · 07/03/2012 16:40

Well they should.

mosschops30 · 07/03/2012 17:19

oldmum totally not, i am a shite catholic, i last went to mass about a year ago Blush and i have to say that some catholics, im sure along with other religions think they are the best and want everyone to toe their line! Im not saying one is better than the other (in fact i loved the mosque) but agree there are plenty of bonkers christians out there!

Great post fuzzypig Smile didnt mean to generalise, but those threads annoy me. I appreciate not all atheists feel that we're trying to get them into some cult

MrsWembley · 07/03/2012 17:22

Sirzy I thought the other thread was about this thread!Confused

GrimmaTheNome · 07/03/2012 17:29

Sirzy I thought the other thread was about this thread
always check the datestamp on the OP.
dandelions also started the '...Muslims...' one. Someone else did '...Quakers...' which I thought a bit more stylish Grin

but we aren't all Richard Dawkins y'know
Not even Richard Dawkins (in that he doesn't actually conform to the way people stereotype him).

LentillyFart · 07/03/2012 17:35

I never ever buy food that's meant for atheists.

oldmum42 · 07/03/2012 17:35

Mosschops Grin.

It's not really that I feel anyone is actively trying to get my to join their particular brand of cult, but I get hacked off when seeing the amount of IMPORTANCE given to religious spokespersons, or to prayers at schools/council meetings, legal matter, political matters etc when most people in this country are not religious (ie do not actually practice their particular religion even if they identify themselves as belonging to it).

I think there should be complete separation of church and state (including no state religious schools) - and religion should be your own private affair.

LauraShigihara · 07/03/2012 17:37

Atheism is the absence of belief, not a belief in itself.
