to think the council are lying?

I applied for a job last week. Its in another council run childrens centre to the one I currently work at. Its my dream job, term time only and permanent. I emailed the app form (I normally would have posted or delivered by hand but had no choice as the closing date was too close. I also emailed a copy to my dp to make sure it sent ok and my friend. They both received it. All 3 copied are listed in my sent items. I never got an email to acknowledge it was received but the advert said you would not receive any confirmation.

My two colleagues who applied received letters on friday to say they didn't get interview.

I thought I'd wait until todays post, I received nothing. I rang the job department and spoke to someone he said they never received it!

I'm absolutely gutted as I'm really sure I would have got interview! I met all the essential and desirable criteria. Plus the manager is my old manager who I got on well with.

How come it didn't send? It looks sent in my sent items!

Should I ring again and enquire further?

The interviews are wednesday and shortlisting was last week.

Why do you think they are lying?

ButteryBiscuitBase · 06/03/2012 03:06

About it not being received, not in a malicious way just in a human error way. Usually if emails don't send they bounce back. When I rang I was asked to hold and I heard the man I spoke to say something like " we have been really good the past couple of months, watch what will happen now" to someone in the background. He came back on the phone and told me he would call me back!

I just don't know why they didn't receive it!

Also on the advert it says you wouldn't receive confirmation but infact the man told me they DO send an email to say they have received. Had I known this I would have realised and resent it! Or gone to an internet cafe to print and hand deliver it!

Is there any chance you can speak to your old manager first thing in the morning, tell him/her what has happened, and see if they can get you on the shortlist at this late stage before you ring the Council?

ButteryBiscuitBase · 06/03/2012 08:36

Well I'm reluctant to do that as I want it all to be above board so I don't look like I'm trying for favouritism as I know her. I thought about emailing the centre directly with an attached copy to see if they would consider looking at it. I just think if the advert had said they would have sent a confirmation email I would have contacted them and made sure they got it!

Very annoying missed opportunity but just one of those things I suppose!

Did you attach any extra files that might have been too big? My old work's email server wouldn't let through attachments over a certain size.

Shutupanddrive · 06/03/2012 08:48

Why would they lie? They obviously didn't receive it

ButteryBiscuitBase · 06/03/2012 09:12

It just seems strange how my dp and friend received it no problems and were able to open it but they didn't! If they had received it but someone had forgotton to put it in right place or moved it to a wrong place would they actually tell me!?

Lesson learned don't trust computers.

Some HR departments in big organisations can be pretty inefficient. I once hand delivered an application that one council later claimed they never received. It's probably holding up the wonky leg on someone's desk 8 years later. It's a bit of a dice roll with applications anyhow. Sorry to hear for whatever reason it didn't get to who it needed to get to.

A colleague of mine had a similar issue (also council). She chasedit up & they found a few in the 'spam' file

Thanks, maybe its meant to be and a better opportunity is around the corner!
