My OH computor has just crashed losing all our recent unsaved photos! Just got back off a cone in a lifetime holiday and all the pictures we took of our newly renovated property. Why oh why did we not back them up?
The virus is called system check and the computor is not operational at all.
Just read up about system check and they can take all our passwords, credit card numbers etc and our identity!
We were placing our property on a lettings website when it crashed and am a little suspicious this virus came from their website?
There was a message saying pay £80 or your computor will crash.
Beware if you see Systen Check!

What do mean by crash. What did you see on the screen?

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

TotemPole · 06/03/2012 01:15

OP what happens when you switch the computer on?

There are removal instructions here

TotemPole · 06/03/2012 01:19

It hides files, so it's possible the photos are still there.

I was about to suggest starting in safe mode, downloading Malwarebytes but see Totem has got that in the link above
My friend successfully got rid on unwanted virus by using Malwarebytes

Yes it does sound like the Malware virus. That virus tells you that your hard drive is crashing when in fact it's NOT. It just wants you to believe that so you "buy" Don't click on "buy". The virus is just hiding all your icons and everthing so you're led to believe it's crashing when it's not.

It happened to me - and I recommend Malwarebytes. It takes some shifting but it works and doesn't cost anything.

And yes your photos should all still be there. Smile

pippala · 06/03/2012 10:06

THANK YOU WILL LOOK INTO IT.

I had this virus. Removal was a gigantic pain in the arse but it is possible.

I had to manually unhide all of my old files but they were definitely all still there.

Good luck :)

Well done Fleurdebleurgh!

DH sorted it out for me. It was only last week - and took him a couple of days. Don't think I could have done it on my own. He seems to like that kind of challenge...infact he got up at 3am at one point to check on it.

Apparently this Malware virus is from Russia! - they say. Shock
