To not use soap

On my face at all, or neck, or ears? I just use water on shower. Was lurking in style and beauty and seems like many women have a face care regime.

I do dab a little simple moisturiser on, rarely wear make up and when I do, it's only mascara and lipsalve.

I dont use hair products either and rarely blow dry it (it's waist length). I just don't have time and can't be faffed

Prejudice alert:

Waist length hair on adult women is creepy

I do not agree with Puffin.

My friend has waist length hair and it is shiny, thick and well looked after.

I use a facial scrub and a daily moisteriser SPF 25.

ilovetopost01 · 01/03/2012 17:03

Do you use shampoo? OP

NarkedPuffin · 01/03/2012 17:06

As for your no soap thing, you don't mention oily skin or people fainting from your smelly neck so I'd assume that it works perfectly well for you and your skin likes your routine. I suspect half the products most of us use are actually to counteract the effects of other products - moisturiser to put back oils our cleanser strips etc.

NarkedPuffin · 01/03/2012 17:07

And I did say it was my prejudice.

I don't use soap as it is so drying and I used to do the same as you but my skin has become incredibly dry so I now use a cleansing cream, toner and moisturiser which has helped a lot. I think cleansing is important to be honest as makeup won't come off with just water.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/03/2012 17:13

Grin creepy

Yes use shampoo and conditioner. My hair is best feature, dark red, glossy and thick. I'm lucky, one of those annoying people who can wash it and leave it and it looks all nice mostly (and im too lazy to get it cut).

A friend of mine won't use soap, her skin is lovely.

Ambrosius · 01/03/2012 19:05

YANBU I don't wash my face really. I do occasionally use a scrub if my skin gets congested but that's less than once a month. I also don't wear make up other than mascara and lip gloss and I use a baby wipe to take that off.

countessbabycham · 01/03/2012 19:09

I have good skin.I use plain cold water and cheap moisturiser (either the kids eczema cream or Boots Vit E cream).

If I used soap I'm sure my skin would get so tight it'd split.

Shutupanddrive · 01/03/2012 19:16

Neither do I, I just wash in the shower or just use a flannel with warm water. I put moisturiser on most days, when i remember, and also have very good skin. It's a bit dry if anything so soap is the last thing I need!

squeakytoy · 01/03/2012 19:24

I havent used soap on my face for about 20 years or more.. it dries my skin and makes it look patchy too.

I use unperfumed make up wipes.

I am crap at any sort of beauty regime... never wash make up off at night, and never use moisturiser other than a tinted one in summer with SPF in it..

Never get spots or blackheads and I dont have any wrinkles either!. :)

pinkyredrose · 01/03/2012 19:59

YANBU. I haven't used soap on my face for over 20 yrs but I do use cleansing cream every day, much more gentle. Soap is hideous for skin.

pinkyredrose · 01/03/2012 20:00

Envy at your hair, it sounds amazing!

Mmmcoffee · 01/03/2012 20:31

I used to use soap, cleansers, you name it and I'd try it. Had horrible dry skin, spots and blackheads. I stopped using anything other than moisturiser about 5 years ago - I wash in warm water then a bit of SPF moisturiser on my face. No spots, no blackheads, no dry skin. I do exfoliate once a week, but that's about it for my facial routine.

Avoc · 01/03/2012 20:37

I never use soap on my face, it just gets wet in the shower. When I tried all the fancy schmancy cleanse-tone-moisturise stuff in my youth my skin got terribly dry and I got spots. So I don't put anything on my face except sunblock in extremis (usually wear a hat).

But now I'm paranoid I have a smelly neck, thanks to another poster :o

juniper904 · 01/03/2012 20:46

I never use soap on my face. I have very sensitive skin, and it tends to either react badly or else it goes really tight and painful.

I use Tesco's baby lotion to take my make-up off, and then I rinse with water. I don't have spots and my skin is smooth (mostly).

I wash and condition my hair, and put leave-in conditioner in it to control the frizz (I have very curly but fine hair... it's like an aura if left to its own devices).

sashh · 02/03/2012 03:34

I have not put soap on my face for 30+ years - I use cleansers.

My mother told me not to use soap on my face, she never has, and at 78 has a lovely complexion and doesn't look more than about 60. So I've copied her, I exfoliate once a week and use high spf moisturiser daily as I work outdoors a lot, otherwise leave it alone. I only wear make-up about three times a year and remove it with Simple-type wipes. In the shower I use soap only on the bits that smell and the rest, up to my neck, dove shower gel on a scrubby sponge. I wipe the soft side over my face, enough to remove any grub, then rinse thoroughly and rub dry with towel.

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 02/03/2012 08:16

YANBU to use whatever works for you. I use soap on my face because it was the only thing that got rid of adult acne, and I use it on the rest of my body because shower gel makes me itchy.
