There are a couple of parts to this dilemma so bear with me.
18 Months ago I got married and six months later (I am very lax with these things) I sent a photo copy of my marriage certificate to payroll (I work for the local council) signed by the receptionist at my place of work (as instructed by HR) after 4 weeks and my wage slip still arriving in my maiden name I rand them and they said they never received it. Fair do's things go missing in the mail.

Anyway 3 months later I go on maternity leave and my MATB1 went from my place of work, with the paperwork to employment services as it should do and following protocol. 3 months in to my maternity leave, my place of work ring me and tell me payroll have lost my MATB1 and could I ring them and sort it out.

So I do and they agree to send the paper work out and I confirm I'll send my wedding certificate as well so they can update their records. So on Saturday after filling in the paperwork again I send it all off special delivery so I know it will get there safely.

On Monday I receive a message from Payroll can I ring them. So I do and they say I haven't sent in my MATB1, which I haven't as they told me to just fill in the paperwork and that was all I needed to do. In this same conversation I voice my concerns over them losing my documents before and how my original marriage certificate is with them. They put my on hold for about 10 minutes, after this time DD started to scream so put the phone down to deal with her and then go to pick up DS from school.

When I get back there is a message on the answer phone saying they don't have my marriage certificate! I go absolutely mental. I ring them and ask to be put through to a supervisor who tells me it can't possibly have been them that have lost it.

I am about to go nuts and have written a letter to the manager of Employment services, and I don't think there is much else I can do, but I am absolutely livid over it. Opinions please x

It's so frustrating isn't it?

I don't know what to suggest but my pension is still in my maiden name. I've sent my marriage certificate in twice now, and spoken to people. But it makes no difference.

I've been married for 4 years.

If you sent the paperwork by Special Delivery you can track the number on the Royal Mail website ..........you will also be able to get a copy of the signature of the person who signed for it, date and time etc. When you have all that go back to the payroll department with the proof (hopefully) that someone in their department has had it and ask them to pay for a new wedding certificate.

Oh, and if it was Royal Mail who lost the paperwork, they will have to pay for a new one and compensate you too. Good Luck

I had a temporary job with Tesco once. I became just as cross as you when I found it impossible to get a P45 out of them when I left. I rang and asked for Payroll. What did I get? An Indian call centre with non-understandable people at the other end. I asked for a supervisor and explained to her but even now 6 years later, I still haven't received it. I made noises with the Manager of the branch where I had worked and got nowhere.

A very helpful Revenue and Customs woman had received their portion of my P45 so where was my bit? She said that, for another job, I would need a P46 to take the place of a P45. That's no comfort though when you have spent ages on the telephone or using up petrol to sort out someone else's mess.

Next time you take paperwork to work, make a list of what you have taken and get someone - anyone - to sign and print his/her name. That will cover you in case of next time and they'll know that you gave in your papers.

Sounds like the company I work(ed) for...

No consolation at the moment I know, but I bet the paperwork miraculously appears shortly after they receive your letter.
