To use a subbed...

I have a special event coming up. I'm pasty white and look like death warmed up!

Would IBU to have a few sessions on the sunbed to make myself feel better and get a bit of a glow?

Or AIBU and putting myself at risk and thus selfish and not thinking of DC's?.

I just can't decide?

Thanks Betty. Have got 7 similar looking moles which are a constant worry to me & are being monitored closely. Will need to make a decision in April about further biopsies.

Thank goodness for our wonderful NHS! I feel very fortunate to have avoided chemo/radiotherapy and be in the position to warn others.

Oh I hope it goes Okay and everything comes back benign. For what it's worth I understand the thing of just rather not knowing, because once you know, and if it's bad, you've got to deal with it...do you think you'll have them taken off?

Look at how many stars at the Oscar's were rocking the pale and interesting look. Fake tans can look a bit cheap imo. Be pale and proud OP. Have an exfoliation and lovely all over massage with oils etc. Probably similar price to a fake tan and you get gorgeous glowing skin.

EmptyCrispPackets · 29/02/2012 11:15

I have spray tans every 10 days usually as I feel so much better with a bit of colour, and clothes seems to look better on and I dont use half as much make up. My friend does them so I get mates rates Smile

Don't use the sunbed. I used to years ago and had a suspicious mole removed last year, scared the life out of me so I'd never use them again. Plus you can get really good ones in the shops these days, fake bake do a instant spray in a can and you literally can see it going on so easy not to get it patchy. I have a can I use for emergencies Smile

true story will make anyone think twice about sun safety in general

please don't use a sunbed.

mancbird · 29/02/2012 14:02

Spray tan....

My friend used to use sunbeds all the time until she was diagnosed with skin cancer :( Thankfully she is now ok, but I would never use a sunbed because of this.

Sod tanning, fake or real.

I have very pale skin which I sometimes give a little lift to with luminous/pearlescent/iridescent makeup. Benefit has some very good products for this, although they keep changing the branding for their best one.

I'm going to go against the grain of the thread..... YABVVU to use a sunbed, but you would also BU to spray tan.

Sunbeds are much riskier then sun exposure, so NO.

However, the whole range of products designed for tanning and sunscreens too, are full, absolutely full, of nasty chemicals, DHA, the dye used in all of them, is dangerous stuff.... worse if the mist is breathed in (very difficult to avoid unless you plan to stop breathing for the whole time you are being sprayed!), the Parabens in tanning products and sunscreens a also toxic, cancer-causing, those are just 2 of the many nasties in these products......

Stay pale - or get out and get some safe sun exposure in the garden - people who have regular sun exposure (without burning), ie outdoor workers, have lower risks of many cancers (including Melanoma), than people who get NO sun exposure, and a lower risk of a whole host of other medical conditions - because they have plenty of vitamin D.
Burning is bad. Gradual sun exposure is good.

'Sleb style fake orange looks awful anyway - I'm sticking to pale and interesting in the winter, lightly, naturally, tanned the rest of the year.

Bingdweller · 29/02/2012 16:05

If you do fake it, I highly recommend Vani-T tans - not the slightest hint of orange! The added bonus is that you can wash off after 4 hours so you don't have to go a day or two before a night out.
