To think that MY toothbrush is for MY use only?

I am not a girly/pinky sort of person but I do always use a pink toothbrush. In a household of 4 males and me I thought that was a good way of ensuring that no-one else uses it. I just caught DH using it. He "didn't realise" it wasn't his. What the friggidy frittity fudge? There is very serious stuff going on in his/our family at moment and this is of course totally inconsequential and trivial but I'm in tears over it because I just want a bit of respect for my personal space, and not to be taken totally and utterly for granted. It doesn't help that he has halitosis from time to time.

Poor you.

It took me a long time to train my DH that toothbrushes are not communal. Made me feel bad because he's happy to use a toothbrush used by other family members and I cannot reciprocate. YUK.

jollyoldstnickschick · 28/02/2012 08:57

I also live in a house of males I saw ds2 using my bright pink toothbrush....

why not? he asked, after all I did live in your womb for a long time and thats personal too.

Hmm.

Its not good is it.

lesley33 · 28/02/2012 08:57

I would find it yucky if my DP used my toothbrush. But tbh there is no logical reason to feel this way given..ahem..the parts of DP's anatomy i have had in my mouth (sorry about that)

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 28/02/2012 09:00

toothbrush is trying to kill you

jollyoldstnickschick · 28/02/2012 09:01

lesley thats what Dh said to me when on holiday I couldnt find my toothbrush -and i refused his offer to share his.

*my toothbrush was found adorning a sandcastle????

Mrsgradgrind · 28/02/2012 09:02

But Lesley bet you would want to cleanse your pallette after your husband's toothbrush had been there, and if that "toothbrush" was suffering from "halitosis" you wouldn't want to be using it at all? :)

I find it astounding that people think they can share toothbrushes. It is just Not On.

How hard it is to use the same colour toothbrush every day and stick to it?

keepingupwiththejoneses · 28/02/2012 09:32

My DH just uses the first one he gets hold of, it drives me mad. He is adamant there is nothing wrong with, stupid man. I keep a little stash of toothbrushes in my dressing table now.

lisad123 · 28/02/2012 09:34

Yuck!!
My dh is a pain sometimes but never has he used my tooth brush!

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 28/02/2012 09:46

ICK!

Yan- boooo!!!!!!!!

mojitomania · 28/02/2012 09:48

Yuck.

If I caught anyone at home using my toothbrush it would go straight in the bin and they'd be going straight to the shop for a replacement.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 28/02/2012 10:19

Yuck Hmm That is gross. Although someone on here did say she didn't think there was anything wrong with using her in-law's toothbrushes when she visited them and couldn't understand why they used to hide them from her.

There's all manner of germs in there - cold sore virus can live in a toothbrush FFS.

EirikurNoromaour · 28/02/2012 10:32

Yuk
Sure I like sucking DH's dick but his morning mouth is toxic. I will only let him use mine in dire extremis.

imnotmymum · 28/02/2012 10:37

bet he wouldn't let you use his toothbrush after aforementioned activity EirikurNoromaour !!!

EirikurNoromaour · 28/02/2012 10:38

Grin he wouldn't care he is a bit of a skank like that

gelatinous · 28/02/2012 10:51

dh has the extremely irritating habit of using the nearest toothbrush regardless of colour or ownership. I've tried for 25 years to break him of the habit, but only this morning ds had a meltdown as he couldn't find his toothbrush, only to find dh slobbering all over it. It's completely gross, happens at least once a week and it seems there's nothing we can do about it.

GrittersWifeAndProud · 28/02/2012 11:19

faith really? I can't believe anyone would think that! I could never use my in laws toothbrushes

CremeEggThief · 28/02/2012 11:25

I once read that apparently more people would share their toothbrushes with their nearest and dearest than their lottery wins! Shock
Now I would happily bung anyone and everyone a few quid, but nobody uses my toothbrush!

I kiss my husband, so I wouldnt have any issue with sharing a toothbrush with him in an emergency... on a regular basis it would annoy me, but as a one off I wouldnt mind.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/02/2012 12:33

URGGGGHHHHHH My toothbrush is mine, and if I found anyone else using it, it would go straight in the bin, and I'd go straight to the shop for a new one.

I don't think anyone in our house would use someone else's toothbrush to clean their teeth with - though before we were married, dh did think it was ok to use MY toothbrush to clean the outlets on his gas fire with. Shock

Magneto · 28/02/2012 12:36

Is it a bloke thing? Dh does this too whereas I had never heard of it. Can't complain now though as ds loves playing with our toothbrushes so I can never be entirely certain where it has been ConfusedHmm

MissTapestry · 28/02/2012 12:41

Urrrggh! That's rank, sure I snog my DP most days, but I don't use my tongue to scrape bits of food and plaque off his teeth! Bleurgh. YADNBU at all!

Mrsgradgrind · 28/02/2012 16:55

Well I no longer plan to divorce him over it, but the brush has gone in the bin and the new one will be kept well away from him.
