Em no that's last years unpaid paye and ni only.

They owe 49 million according to and it's going to court.

Could be as high as 75 million.

Plus another 18 million I think from somewhere else.

trois - I am not following your post at all. Esp the wall reconstruction bit? Can you say a bit more, please?

rhondajean · 23/02/2012 21:40

I've just spotted that in the last hour they think they may owe another 4 to 6 million.

The rangers fans are loyalists btw, union jacks etc, England football tops, you get to keep them in the divorce tyvm.

Tanith · 23/02/2012 21:40

SEVENTY FIVE MILLION POUNDS!!!!!!!! Shock Shock Shock Shock

How does anyone manage to owe the taxman £75 million?

OP posts:
rhondajean · 23/02/2012 21:42

It's called fraud tanith, plain and simple.

LovedayPan · 23/02/2012 21:45

rhonda - where does the unionist element of Rangers come into this?

seaweedhead · 23/02/2012 21:46

I'm a bit Confused about how they got away with not paying that much in the first place.

rhondajean · 23/02/2012 21:46

Was in response to trois separatist comment.

PacificDogwood · 23/02/2012 21:48

I am entirely confused by the whole thing.

They owe the tax man, and there is loadsa money somehow missing?? 24 million?? I am with Tanith on the speechlessness tbh.

rhondajean · 23/02/2012 21:49

They aren't the only club seaweed. They set up some type of off shore tax avoid dance scheme to pay players and hmrc claim it's illegal. Arsenal for example are believed to have settled a huge amount out of court. Rangers can't afford to do it now.

The 9million is to do with the guy who bought them last march, he seems to be a bit dodgy. Loads of info on the bbc website - basically someone has taken the paye and ni from the staff but not paid it to hmrc last year. If you have a big staff and high earners 9 million can run up quickly.

The 24 million mostly seems to have been paid to lloyds to cover debt to the bank. Craig white said he would fund it when he took over from another of his companies, pre sold season book rights, used that money to pay lloyds.

LovedayPan · 23/02/2012 21:53

yes, rhonda and trois - I am innocently curious about the issue re seperatlism and nationalism and poss sectarianism involved here. As a business they are massively in hoc. How we constructed something else about it I am willing to be educated.

PacificDogwood · 23/02/2012 21:53

Apparently CW and thereby Rangers got into trouble because all of his companies are so linked and interlinked that when for instance his poperty lost value it had a knockon effect of other business and in house-of-card fashion it all when pearshaped (can you tell I am a business/financial genius - not).

Re trois charm - yes.

seaweedhead · 23/02/2012 21:53

Oh! I see! So just a bit of good old fashioned illegal tax dodging!

There's far too much money in football now, surely it can't go on like this.

troisgarcons · 23/02/2012 21:54

Trois, are you always so charming?

I merely agree with Salmond. Be a first and last. But hey ho.

LovedayPan · 23/02/2012 21:58

Gosh, there is a really sharp contrasts here isn't there? Money, sport, tax dodging, nationalism and poss. sectrarianism.

rhondajean · 23/02/2012 21:59

Love day is right its basically a business issue but nothing causes more bad feelings round here than anything to do with the old firm.

If I stop being flippant though, trois comment is actually wrong because if we took that debt away then it's money which is owed to hmrc for the whole of the uk, it's a really silly comment and I shouldn't have come back with a joke sorry.

Pacific mr whyte and the club are currently under four investigations as well as administration for the club. He would appear to have done a big scale version of maxing all your credit cards to cover each other if that makes any sense.

MULLYPEEP · 23/02/2012 22:05

I heard somewhere the tax issue is like a test case and loads of other clubs, like arsenal employed the same practices.

AgentProvocateur · 23/02/2012 22:11

One of my friends was at school with CW. By all accounts, he was a weasely bastard then too.

Chocladoodle · 23/02/2012 22:12

trois Hmm You really should start a thread on the case for Scottish Independence. I'm sure your comments would go down well.

PacificDogwood · 23/02/2012 22:12

Some person who sounded like they knew what they were talking about on Radio Scotland the other day said that they felt that what CW had done businesswise reflected a whole cultue of financing business on a cascade of debts and loans and mortgages etc etc. I have no idea who he was, but I feel he is right.
Football clubs, like business, like frankly 'normal' people have got used to living beyond their means. And we are all paying the price for that Angry.
It is astonishing though how they got away with owing that much for so long, when I get panicattacks with every approaching tax-return...

MULLYPEEP · 23/02/2012 22:16

I'm loving all the in ally we trust chat. I know people love the old firm but I LMAO at the weeping fans (sorry if thats any of you although somehow I doubt it).

Tanith · 23/02/2012 22:18

I just cannot get my head around the amounts involved. I really can't even begin to imagine owing that much money...

Sorry - just completely flabbergasted!!
