I tend to go for a walk in a local park most days.

As I was changing into my wellies by my boot, a dog on one of those long leads pelted up to my drivers door and jumped up, bouncing trying to get a good look in. I had no idea why. Confused

I turned and looked towards the end of the lead for the owner who was just standing there gormlessly letting her dog do it. Angry

I asked, politely if she could stop the dog doing that, and she replied that I had the same car as her husband and the dog was excited and just checking it out "no harm, no foul".

Angry

I replied, still politely, that I'd like him to stop it, as it could damage the paintwork - she gave me utter daggers and said "oh for fucks sake, its only a car." She then tugged on its lead and moved off.

Would you have asked someone to stop a dog jumping over your car? Obviously, I don't think I was BU, but she thought I was BVU, I'd like the Mumsnet take on this please.

(namechanged as I know how vitriolic these dog threads can get Sad)

I think you were remarkably restrained. Her 'no harm, no foul' comment would have sent me into an absolute fit of rage. What an idiot she sounds.

Ywnbu!!

What a fucking buffoon she was.

hanaka88 · 20/02/2012 14:01

Ywnbu.

onemoreminute · 20/02/2012 14:02

I think the 'no harm, no foul' would have made me throw my wellies at her.

MrsWifty · 20/02/2012 14:03

I cannot stand people who think they can dictate how precious your possessions should be to you. The dog is irrelevant - YWNBU.

Annpan88 · 20/02/2012 14:03

Not at all. You were polite, she, was a dick

She was indeed a dick who should be strangled with her own flexi lead. Hate those things.

Birdsgottafly · 20/02/2012 14:10

This isn't about dogs, if she had children, she probably would have been the type to let her children scrap the car with their scooters/bikes/spade etc.

Most people have to get as much as they can when they sell their car and how the paintwork looks changes the price.

BobseyBooBah · 20/02/2012 14:14

Thanks all.

I had started to question myself actually.

When she responded about the dog looking for her husband, it was accompanied by a goofy proud, "oh isn't he the cutest" sort of face.

I was riled, but remained calm.

Even if the dog had 'only' been jumping on your wellies you still were remarkably restrained! How did she know that you weren't incredibly nervous around dogs before she let it come over and bug you in the first place?!

I'd probably have taken her details so that I could contact her in order to arrange payment for a respray Wink

Yanbu. Silly bitch. Death by flexi lead if it happens again.
