How to deal with dh bi polar

I have posted on here a few times regarding dh and his ongoing depression turns out he has bi polar and is being referred to a pyschiatrist,

he is still having highs and lows at a alarming rate and is even going so far as sending horrible texts to his family then apologising then dwelling on things from the past and the whole thing starts again.

Now we know what it is we have hope that with the right treatment etc things will get better but I would really like to know if anyone has experience with this and how I deal with him when he is on a low without making things worse.
Also if there are any alternative things he could try while waiting for his new medication.
I know I could post in mental health section but there is not much traffic and I am going crazy here.

Has your dp been referred to a Community Mental Health Team (i.e. does he have a CPN)? If not, you could ask your gp to make this referral. CBT sometimes helps, but it isn't a quick fix. A mood stabiliser and anti-depressant combo often works well.

Have you considered looking into support for yourself from your mental health trust? Some carers drop in groups can be very helpful.

If thingt get too bad there should be some sort of crisis team you can phone for an urgent appointment with the psychiatrist. Ask your GP.

You could look for local support groups. I have one run by Mind near me.

Hope you get the support you need soon.
