To think northern rail are cheeky ?

AIBU to think it a bit of a cheek to have my rail ticket checked when my train left 45 mins late and after 3 platform changes? My grumpy teenagers thought it rude of me to make this comment to (poor, friendly)conductor.

EH? im sorry that just didnt go in!!

M0naLisa · 17/02/2012 16:49

Right. Hmm the conductor still has a job to do whether the train is late/changes or not!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 17/02/2012 16:52

You still need to have the right ticket!

JerichoStarQuilt · 17/02/2012 16:58

No, they're two unrelated things - it's not like people who try to dodge fairs saw the train was late and thought 'fuck it, I was going to scam a free ride, but not now!'

Sirzy · 17/02/2012 17:13

Why shouldn't they check your ticket?

CharminglyOdd · 17/02/2012 17:23

YABU - The other reason they check tickets (apart from doing their jobs) is to help passengers with onward journeys when there have been delays. I've often seen conductors go through the train checking everyone is sorted for the next leg of their journey and they call ahead/make announcements about interchanges and platforms at stations.

Sorry guys....just felt cross at paying for a service that I did not get, and really frustrated....wasn't about the conductor per sae

If you didn't get the service you'd still be at the train station. Yes, it was crap that it was late but giving the conductor a hard time is rude and daft. It's hardly his/her fault. YABU.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 17/02/2012 18:23

But you did get the service, just not at the advertised time.

YABU to think the conductor who is being paid to do a job should just sit on his arese doing nothing because the train was delayed.

Do you think that rail travel should be free to everyone if the train leaves late? How late would the train have to be before we all qualify for a free ride?

drywhiteplease · 17/02/2012 18:50

How does Japan do it?

Ok mn....I was unreasonable ,have had g and t and feel much better now.

KitchenRoll Over an hour to get your single fare back, over two hours if you want your return ticket refunded.

Actually OP if you arrived at your destination over 30 mins late you should be able to get half your ticket (for that one-way part of the journey) back. Keep your ticket and look up 'Delay Repay' on Northern Rail's website.
