i went into a well known card shop today to get hubby valentine card was lookihn across the shelves for husband and was quite surprised to see cards and on the front such things as happy valentines day from daddys little girl........happy valentines day to my son, daughter, mom, dad, nan, brother, sister etc etc i thought valntines cards we annonymous joke ot from lovers partners etc not family just doesnt sit right somehow

When I was at school (years ago) we used to make cards for our parents. Now people can make money from the same thing.

Sending a valentines to someone doesn't mean you want to have sex with them. Some people send them to family members. It's not creepy. If you don't like it, don't do it.

This isn't a new thing, they've been selling Valentine's cards for children/parents/pets for years. Don't see a problem with it myself.

Well I think it's weird too - NOT in a pervy way, just in a 'haven't you missed the point / what crap will the card companies be flogging next' way. But I guess for some people Valentines isn't about romantic love and sexual attraction, but, erm, sending cards to anyone you love, or like... or ...

But then I think sending cards to other couples on their wedding anniversaries is weird too so what do I know?

Valentines day can mean whatever people want it to mean. If someone wants to use it as an excuse to make sure that the people they love know they are loved, (like I do) then that's got to be a good thing.

I realise it's all about marketing, but they are a business and no one is forced to buy the cards.

Nothing bad can come from a card that sends love, we should have valentines day more often.

they are making the most out of the market to make money but i always thought that traditionally way back Valentines day was about love, you could send anyone you loved a token or card, not just your lover or partner.

So YABU to feel bothered about that but not about money grabbing card companies trying to take advantage.

I used to send my granddad a valentines card.

Not a big romantic one or one going on about sex or pants or calling him a stud muffin or anything.

Just a simple one that told him I loved him. Cos I did.

I never used to sign it but somehow he would always guess it was from me being addressed to Granddad probably gave the game away and ring me up to call me a daft bugger.

Made us both happy.

He's been dead for a few years now, and I miss him, but when we were clearing out his house we found that he had saved every single one of those cards and it still makes me happy now that this was something we did while he was alive.

I don't think it's a bad thing that Valentines day turns into a general 'show you love someone' day but where does that end?
It could cost you a fortune to send one to everyone you loved. A bit ridiculous.

The one living creature that i can truefully say will love me until she dies, is my dog, so if my DP gets me a card from her (as i do for him), i am quite happy with that. If it makes us happy, then we should be left to it.
