Looking at book for new kindle and sorted list of books by low-high price.
I was sickened to see at no 7 a book about a child and a stepfather!! Not a true life story type but by description and rape and child abuse as a sex novel!!
Is there anywhere to report this? Surely it's illegal?!
I can see a report button but I'm on phone. But off to be sick now :(

A list of what? Bestsellers for kindle?

lisad123 · 14/02/2012 01:00

Yes just went to kindle books, didn't search via catagory just whole lot and sorted by price!

So it's listed in the wrong category or given the wrong keywords? And you think it's intentional?

lisad123 · 14/02/2012 01:02

I wanted to see free books as happy to read crime, love story or true life! But omg shocked doesn't even cut it!

LeBOF · 14/02/2012 01:03

But there are gazillions which are free. I'm still puzzled how you found it. Is it a real book, or just one of those crappy self-published ones?

lisad123 · 14/02/2012 01:04

I think it's sick that anyone would write a book like that and that amazon would sell it. Angry

TBF to the OP, my friend had this happen the other day. She was after a book called brothersister or something like that and it came back with some horrific porn listing on incest. She complained to Amazon

lisad123 · 14/02/2012 01:05

I'm new to kindle. I went to amazon, kindle store, ebooks, which I think brought up 101,000 books and then sorted by price!
Teach me not to use category or keywords! Blush

I imagine that any old dross gets put up there. I wouldn't take it as indicative of anybody's reading tastes.

lisad123 · 14/02/2012 01:08

I didn't consider that people put their own stuff up on amazon kindle store. Can you tell I'm new to it?!
Will report to amazon in the morning from
Laptop

LeBOF · 14/02/2012 01:14

Oh they certainly do. The free books are mostly complete dross.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 14/02/2012 01:25

That's basically the plot of Lolita isn't it? It's sick, but not that shocking.

solidgoldbrass · 14/02/2012 01:34

But there are shitloads of books like this. They are called 'misery memoirs.' And lots of stupid people buy them. Not everyone's cup of tea, of course, but banning books because you don't like them is never good.

Aribura · 14/02/2012 01:35

This sounds like the novel Lolita. If so, it was published in 1955, get with the program. YABU.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 14/02/2012 01:38

sgb It's not a misery memoir because it's fiction

BeeWi · 14/02/2012 02:04

Aribura, was just about to say that. Please tell us yoy're not on about 'Lolita'?!

HardCheese · 14/02/2012 04:44

Nabokov's Lolita, surely. OP, have you somehow never managed to come across even a reference to one of the 20thc's most famous novels? Also, you're getting on for six decades late with the outrage.

Tee2072 · 14/02/2012 06:36

I just looked, since the OP hadn't come back. There is an erotic book called 'I'm not Lolita' about an 18 year old and her step dad. I assume it's that one.

Also, Lolita isn't free!

And, no, OP, it's not illegal.

Whatmeworry · 14/02/2012 06:50

Sickened and Offended? Really?

lisad123 · 14/02/2012 09:26

It wasnt Lolita I'm aware of that book.
I think it's gone now as I can't see it when I did the same search.
It wasn't a true story of abuse, it was selling as an erotic novel.

solidgoldbrass · 14/02/2012 10:39

I firmly believe that people should be able to write and publish novels about any subject they like. Writing novels does not involve harming other individuals. And the idea that ignorant wusses can have novels banned because they disapprove of the subject matter is far more damaging than the existence of one or two novels that deal with things others find distasteful.

If censorship's the answer, it's always a fucking stupid question.

(Oh, and an awful lot of misery memoirs have turned out to be pretty much fiction BTW.)
