DH treats me like a crIminal for it but am I doing anything really wrong?

Sometimes I just eat a few small spoonfuls, other times I make a dough with a little water and eat that. I don't do it often but sometimes i just crave it (not pg)

OP posts:
Kayano · 12/02/2012 15:01

Only
If mixed with butter sugar and raw egg and eaten as part of cake mix....

Flour alone? I'm with your DH and hereby say YABU

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2012 15:04

No, but, but, BUT... what about the weevils? Shock

)))raw, uncooked weevils(((

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 15:04

I've always understood it to be high in bacteria and can make you quite ill

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2012 15:05

High in weevils too, and they're ALWAYS there...

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 15:09

They'll make the OP wobble but at least she won't fall down..

awhistlingwoman · 12/02/2012 15:12

Caught my DD2 (3) eating flour from the bag the other day. So she would say YANBU.

But had not thought about potential presence of weevils. Boak.

makachu · 12/02/2012 15:12

Ew that's yucky.

awhistlingwoman · 12/02/2012 15:12

Thought DD2 had been looking wobbly lately. That would be the weevils.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/02/2012 15:15

Grin at Worra.... instant cure for drunkenness then? So a spoonful of flour at the end of a good sesh and you'll stay forever upright, OP.

LineRunner · 12/02/2012 15:18

I like eating raw potato and other people find that ... odd.

It must be the starch or summat.

gastrognome · 12/02/2012 15:18

Hi,
Have you heard of "pica"? It's the scientific name for when people eat non-food substances or ingredients - I think eating flour might come under this heading. Have a Google and you might find some more info.

By the way, I don't think YABU, but I can't imagine it's doing you any good. If it were a valid/healthy foodstuff when raw, wouldn't it be more common for people around the world to eat it that way?

I used to eat chalk when I was a child and not pregnant.

I like to eat flour though. As Kayano said - in a cake. I used to have a bag of SR flour and used it even though it had little wiggly things about half a cm long in it. Made cakes taste nice.

chattymouth · 12/02/2012 15:22

It is a food substance most of us eat it everyday just cooked. Your not hurting anyone tell him to bog off

SlightlyJaded · 12/02/2012 15:27

When I was about 5, I started nibbling on a pottery cup. It was part of a set from a dolls house - 4 cups and 4 saucers and a small teapot.

Over the next few weeks, I secretly worked my way through the lot Confused. I don't know why but I distinctly remember wanting to eat it, enjoying the grittyness of the pottery and thinking I ought to do it in secret because it wasn't quite right.

Haven't thought about that for years, but the memory of 'craving' the pottery is clear. So the flour thing is odd, but not that odd Blush

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 12/02/2012 15:34

Sounds like pica, as others have mentioned. I have it, although my obsession is less healthy than an actual food stuff..... apparently due to a lack of a certain nutrient or mineral, in my case possibly magnesium or iron. I've stopped, on my current diet I don't feel like I need it but I do get horrible, horrible cravings....

mumnotmachine · 12/02/2012 17:31

Are they weevils, or weasels? (Thinks Worra will understand!!)

Pascha · 12/02/2012 17:34

Dh eats raw potato. gross.

stargirl1701 · 12/02/2012 17:36

I love raw pastry - never eat it cooked :) Everyone I know thinks it's odd.

troisgarcons · 12/02/2012 17:37

I dont have weevils in my flour - and if I did they would be a source of protein.

(((Big hugs to air tight containers))) Grin

troisgarcons · 12/02/2012 17:37

Raw potoatoes? better than cooked
Raw pastry - just a god given food really - I love raw pastry!
