Both of my kids have started calling me this. It's not Mum! anymore it's Muuuuuuu-uuuuum, turning into a six syllable or more word.

I love my kids and I love being their Mum but this new habit is sending my stress levels through the roof whenever I hear it, which is around 500 times a day!

Ds just did it again as I wrote this and had to clamp my teeth together to prevent myself from roaring "WHAT!!!!!!!!!" in manner of the bellowing of a charging silver back gorilla!

AIBU?!

Don't answer until they just say Mum. With luck you'll never have to be at their beck and call ever again !!

CheerMum · 11/02/2012 19:14

i'd be tempted to reply "dssssssssssssss" in exactly the same way (obviously it works better using a real name ifkwim)

MrsChemist · 11/02/2012 19:16

I'm not sure which I'd find more annoying, that, or 'MAMMAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!' which is what I'm usually called by DS.

akaemmafrost · 11/02/2012 19:16

Have tried telling them that I will not respond to children that don't say Mum properly but they, especially dd think thus is extremely GrinGrinGrin, making me even more Angry and Hmm.

this has just reminded me of something that I meant to start a thread about the other day...

my DIL told off her 6yo the other day....for what I thought was one of the most bonkers reasons ever..

For calling her "mum" and not "mummy"... Confused

I actually said to her "eh??? what is wrong with it.. you ARE her mum"

She reckons that GD is not old enough yet, and it has to be Mummy and Daddy, not Mum or Dad...

Grin well for some reason I can tune other people kids out, just my own I can't manage. Those irritating maternal instincts!!

KnittingNovice · 11/02/2012 20:10

Ds (3.7) and dd (23 months) will regularly yell KnittingNovice rather than mummy. Useful at soft play hell when every other child is yelling mummy. Not so good i sainsburys
