Charging £34.99 for this?

It's just a bloody stuffed toy, it doesn't even do anything.

it'll be the makers that set a RRP, and toys r us will add a standard mark up. Don't buy it if you don't like the price.

Catsmamma · 11/02/2012 14:40

so don't buy it. Pretty certain it's not compulsory.

or wait til september, it'll be in the marked down bin.

LaBoccaDellaVerita · 11/02/2012 14:41

Hideous and the stuff of nightmares. Who would want it anyway?

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 11/02/2012 14:43

Certainly won't be buying it, I agree with LaBocca it's horrible and I wouldn't take it if they were giving it for free. Is anything to do with the olympics an excuse for outrageous markups for retailers, glad I'm not anywhere near London.

the manufacturers set the RRP.
the toy is 45cm (about 18"), so that's about right for a licensed toy

Auntiestablishment · 11/02/2012 14:44

It's £38.99 from the official London 2012 shop.

So Toys R Us are actually giving you a better deal.

It's still totally hideous, though, I agree and I cannot imagine anyone, anywhere buying one.

nickelDorritt · 11/02/2012 14:50

I can't log in to the Golden Bear site, so I can't find out what the cost price is to shops. :(

theincredibequeenofwands · 11/02/2012 14:51

What is it?

Is it an alien??

Sparklingbrook · 11/02/2012 14:56

Toys R Us take the piss just by existing. I can't stand the place-souless, with crap customer service. Angry

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 11/02/2012 15:03

There can't be more than a couple of pounds worth of cloth and stuffing in it, I would have said a tenner was a reasonable price. Hope they are not relying on a lot of merchandise sales to fund these olympics or there are a lot of rich tourists coming as I suspect Catsmamma is right and the bargain bins will be full of these in September.

nickelDorritt · 11/02/2012 15:05

yes, but with licensed toys, you have to pay quite a lot for the licence to use the logo/design etc.

CalatalieSisters · 11/02/2012 15:06

THe Olympic brand designers are taking the piss too. It looks like a cyclops wearing a pro-BNP shellsuit.

TheFarSide · 11/02/2012 15:08

It's ridiculously ugly - I am Shock at the idea that anyone might want to buy one!

YANBU

nickelDorritt · 11/02/2012 15:19

now, the design of the "characters" is based on some lumps of metal.
some bloke who was making something on the olympics building, these lumps of metal fell out of the fire (or something) and landed as these shapes, that he thought looked like peopel, so he picked them up and took them home to his child.

That's what it says in the picture book I saw.

(crappest story ever, crappest characters ever )

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 11/02/2012 15:22

Are they made in Britain does anyone know?

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 11/02/2012 15:26

They will be hoping that people buy them "because they will be worth a fortune in a few years" and justify the price that way. They are horrible, whatever they are meant to be.

nickelDorritt · 11/02/2012 15:27

I'm pretty sure they won't be made in britain.

peeriebear · 11/02/2012 15:27

They are about as good as the Olympic logo. And as much value for money. I wonder which sweatshop they were made in?

southeastastra · 11/02/2012 15:29

all the olympic stuff is ridiculously overpriced

AlistairSim · 11/02/2012 16:12

It all went downhill when they got rid of Geoffrey.
