Went out for coffee this afternoon to new-ish cafe. This area has lots of coffee shops so competition is pretty cut-throat.
I ordered a drink & cake and my friend did likewise. About 15mins later our drinks arrive along with one cake. Waitress then explains that the other cakes we ordered was 'off' the menu (despite the fact that there was some clearly on display when we arrived.
She offers us a few alternatives and we chose one of themwhich duly arrived after another 10mins (i.e. really quite a long time after our drinks arrived) but what surprised me was that it came with a bill. The replacement cake was slightly more expensive than the original cake ordered. I have to confess I'd expected them to write off the relatively trivial price difference as they had buggered up and allowed us to order something which was finished. The final surprise was that the waitress expected me (it was my turn to buy coffee) to traipse downstairs to pay there and then. I have to confess I declined and paid on the way out.
I was a bit surprised by this 'customer service' and don't think I'll be going back (the coffee wasn't very good either which didn't help).
