To not want a mobile mast 20 metres from my house....

bookbird · 07/02/2012 15:33

....and to feel frustrated that no-one else seems to care?

Mast would be 20 metres from DS's bedroom window and 50 metres from his school playground. He'll never escape from it.

Also frustrated at the "no proven health risks to mobile masts" line that the planning consultant sent me. Yeah, but health risks aren't disproven either and I'd rather not play the lottery with my DCs health thanks very much.

I suppose this is really NIMBYish but I'm really worried about our proximity to it.

I don't want them "near" anyone. I've identified 3 brownfield sites in a one mile radius that i thought would be better suited. I'll go away and research the cone effect now though.

I like hypocrisy.
I have a mobile phone and wifi but wouldn't a mast near me.
I use electricity but hate having to look at the blasted pylons all the sodding time.
I hate car drivers but drive a car myself.
I hate children but have two of my own.

Hypocrisy rocks!
No it doesn't.

TheRhubarb · 07/02/2012 16:10

WTF is a nimby? Anyone?

ReduceRecycleRegift · 07/02/2012 16:10

"I don't want them "near" anyone. I've identified 3 brownfield sites in a one mile radius that i thought would be better suited."

That is the worst possible place! noone is under it and it's pointing at everyone.

FFS.

Not hypocritical at all "paranoid" I think was clear I don't allow my children access to phones - this isn't about me, this is about my concern for their health.

Do you work for a mobile company per chance?

TheRhubarb · 07/02/2012 16:12

Oh right, thanks!

Yeah that's me. Keep your shit away from me but let me use it whenever I want Grin

MrsHoarder · 07/02/2012 16:13

If you're in an urban area then a mile away may well not cover the blackspot this mast is for anyway. Also phone companies need to get the landowners permission or buy land to site a mast on.

And if you want to own a mobile, you are causing demand for more masts. If all the NIMBYs who try to block mast planning applications threw away their mobiles and those of the rest of the family then maybe there would be less need for masts.

TiggyD · 07/02/2012 16:13

"I don't want them near anyone"
Banana = Build absolutely nothing anywhere near anyone.

bejeezus · 07/02/2012 16:13

Not In My Back Yard

ReduceRecycleRegift · 07/02/2012 16:14

I am concerned about my child's health, I avoid as many endocrine disrupters as I can, use natural cleaning products, his drinks are in BPA free bottles, orgainic food and bath/cream products, cloth nappies... which is why I DISPAIR at people like you getting masts moved from the safest place for them to worse places!

BehindLockNumberNine · 07/02/2012 16:15

There is one on top of ds's school. (large comprehensive secondary)

It concerned me initially. But then I spoke with my friend's dh who commissions and locates mobile phone masts (his job and area of expertise). He recommended the mast went on top of the school. And for me the proof that it was safe was when he sent his own ds to that exact school. He would not have done that if he thought it was not safe...

bookbird · 07/02/2012 16:17

I did say I would go and research the cone effect "reduce". I'm a concerned parent learning as I go. If you are going to quote me, do it in context.

OP posts:
TheParanoidAndroid · 07/02/2012 16:17

No, of course I don't, shows your narrow thinking though that you leap to that conclusion. Hmm
You do realise that you get more radiation from using a mobile phone than from being near a mast at ground level?

ReduceRecycleRegift · 07/02/2012 16:17

I don't even wrap his sandwiches in plastic, his are packed in greaseproof paper, but I would rather him go to school UNDER a mast than a mile away from one! They WILL go somewhere!

Agincourt · 07/02/2012 16:18

you need to set up a demo like Pam-larrrr

Highlander · 07/02/2012 16:18

PMSL laughing at the OP using wifi and owning a mobile phone

ReduceRecycleRegift · 07/02/2012 16:19

"I'm a concerned parent learning as I go"

no, you've already objected, put up signs, started FB campaigns, and now as an afterthought you might do a little googling Hmm

learn FIRST, object later!

LtEveDallas · 07/02/2012 16:22

I have objected Dickensia, We've also created a Facebook page and DH has made some signs informing people of said page. We've only had 2 likes.

You've only had 2 likes because the sensible people investigated the issue and discovered you were wrong...

TheRhubarb · 07/02/2012 16:23

Can I be the first please?

Despair! Grin

But hey, I reckon most people on this thread wouldn't want a mast close to their homes or schools. Not the prettiest things are they?

TheRhubarb · 07/02/2012 16:24

Hey wassup with clingfilm then?
Do I need to start my own facebook group about clingfilm?

bookbird · 07/02/2012 16:26

I do have a mobile phone, with an adequate signal, from the company that want to chuck up another mast.

Think I've been clear that I manage my DCs exposure.

OP posts:
ReduceRecycleRegift · 07/02/2012 16:27

if you like Grin but suspect it'll be taken over by pictures of toilets!

point is I try really hard to avoid potential endocrine disrupters and polutants as possible for my son which is why I WOULD rather masts went on his school or beside our house than a mile away on a brownfield site.

bejeezus · 07/02/2012 16:28

Most people I think object because of the way they look. Maybe subconsciously?

TheParanoidAndroid · 07/02/2012 16:28

You're not listening dear, are you?

You limit your childrens exposure to the mobile phones, however since you use a phone, you are pinging off a mast that is probably on some other childrens school.

So if you really believe that mobile phone masts are dangerous to children, you are in effect hurting other peoples children while trying to keep a mast away from your own.
