Has anyone here had any side effects from Miscrogynon30 contraceptive pill? I've only gone on it this month because I get very heavy, painful periods, and I'm hoping if I take it continuously for 2 packs I can avoid the period that is due to clash with close friend's wedding next month. Have been feeling really crap all week, but hasn't turned in to a proper 'bug' or anything - headaches, mild cramps and generally crap. I'm wondering if it is the pill disagreeing with me or coincidence? So, would you stop taking the pill, and risk being in a shit state all day at the wedding and probably not lasting the day out? Or would you stick it out for just over 3 weeks and stop after the wedding?

Don't stop taking it all pills have a risk of side effects they usually wear off.

salmonskinroll · 05/02/2012 12:36

I had terrible headaches on the pill, almost like migraines.

It does take 3 months to adjust and for symptoms to hopefully die down, if they don't I would consider switching to a low dose pill

McHappyPants2012 · 05/02/2012 12:36

i wouldn't take contracetion just the avoid a period at a wedding.

from personal experience contraception does not agree with me, i have break out bleeding every single day.

however since having a mooncup i can honestly say period pain are much lighter and not so heavy

wozntme · 05/02/2012 12:39

Thank you for the replies. I am very ill with my period, ongoing investigations and prescribed medication etc, and no harm in contraception as I definitely don't want to get pg again. Have tried mooncup, but it made no difference, unfortunately. I have taken pill before having kids, but it's been several years.

I didnt get on with Miscrogynon30 at all, I felt ill for weeks (similair symptoms to yours) before I worked out that it was the pill causing it, I went to the dr who changed the prescription, im now on Yasmin and have had no side affects and my periods (the reason im on the pill) are much much better.

If i was you I would make an appointment with your GP but keep taking it until then.

TidyDancer · 05/02/2012 12:55

I don't mean to scaremonger at all, and I know some people get on okay with this pill, but a pharmacist friend of mine has in the past said that she has never heard more bad things about any other form of contraception. I'm not sure what it is about this pill that is so bad, but she wouldn't take it and has always been quite vocal about her feelings on the subject.

I would keep taking it until you see your GP, but I'd be quite firm that you don't want to be prescribed it again.

2nd I got switched from Microgynin? To Yasmin after similar symptoms.

I found that one much much better

FetchezLaVache · 05/02/2012 13:08

I also didn't get on with Microgynon. It wasn't until I ran out during my MA finals and didn't have time to get any more that it dawned on me I was no longer weeping for no reason every day. The next pill I went on (can't remember, began with a B) didn't suit me either, it made me fat and melancholic (at least Microgynon made me thin and melancholic!). Like the others, Yasmin is the only pill that agrees with me, so much so that I stayed on it even when I didn't require its contraceptive effects!

FetchezLaVache · 05/02/2012 13:10

TD- I reckon it must be the cheapest, it seems to be the one they give everyone when they first ask to go on the pill.

whackamole · 05/02/2012 13:10

I was on Microgynon for nearly 10 years. Never had an adverse effect on me.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 05/02/2012 13:14

I was on Microgynon for nearly 10 years with no problems, so cant really comment on whether its making you ill.
But can tell you that running two packs together is not a problem. Went with a friend for an abortion and the consultant told us that they recommend NO BREAKS between packs now, as so many people seem to get pregnant when taking the pill...

TidyDancer · 05/02/2012 13:17

Yeah I think you're probably right. I have never been on it (when I was first on the pill I was quite overweight, I think that's why I was never prescribed it), but it seems that most people have had it or been offered it.

I was on something that came in a pink/purple packet. I can't remember its name now!

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 05/02/2012 13:17

I miss my Microgynon :( I never had any problems on it, but clearly lots of other people have, so why not go to the Dr this week and get a different one :)

Glittertwins · 05/02/2012 13:47

I put on a lot of weight on t so stopped
