To take DD, who has conjunctivitis to birthday party?

My little girl has conjunctivitis, a runny nose, and teething pain. We all haven't slept in 4 nights, so a bit shattered. She is fine in herself, and this is day 3 of being on eye drops. The doctor said it was really contagious.

It's our friends DS birthday today, and Dd is invited. I explained yesterday she was under the weather.

Aibu to take her along? It would do her good to get out and have a play, she is 18 months. Plus, it would do me good too.

Any advice? Thanks.

YAB very U to consider taking her along - it is highly contagious, and everyone else will get it at the birthday party!

If it's only day 3 of treatment, I think you are still in the danger zone.

(I used to get conjunctivitus all the time as a kid - my mum used to just put salt water in my eye, none of these fancy eye drops...)

You really shouldn't. She's too young to know that she can't touch her eyes and then others. I know it's rotten for you, but I think you'd be pretty unpopular with the others there, if you went.

Hope she recovers soon.

Dc's nursery used to allow them back once treatment (drops) had commenced.

But, I wouldn't to be honest.

After 3days of drops she should be fine, we take DCs back at nursery after 1 day of drops.
If she's really that tired she might crash at the party though, be prepared with comfort objects in her buggy if she needs a sleep.

my ds got it this week for the 2nd time in a month. Oh and
I woke up with my eyes stuck together too - Yuk.
Don't risk infecting the other children It is very uncomfortable

YABVU as it is so contagious. Plus if you haven't slept in days why the he'll would you want to put yourselves through the he'll of a toddlers birthday party?

If you turned up with her like that and I was there, i would not miss you and hit the wall.

Plus she sounds miserable, up four nights.

Don't be so selfish. It spreads like wildfire and no doubt siblings of all the party goers will catch it too and then spread it further potentially to younger children, newborns etc.

I think you are okay after 3 days of eye drops re the contagious bit. I would go if sure not contagious.

TBH I would be a bit cross if I took DS to the same party and he caught conjunctivitis. The CM won't take him which means that either DH or I would have to take time off work to look after him when he really shouldn't have been exposed to it at all.

I realise that it would be nice for your DD and you but bloody annoying for the rest of us!

It's along the same lines as the couple who took their daughter with obviously still contagious chicken pox to the supermarket the other day.

Sorry if that seems a bit harsh but the doctor who told you it was contagious did so for a good reason!

I asked because I know of nurseries that let children back after they have had one day on the drops.

AIBU to be FURIOUS that a mother brought her contagious child to a party knowing they had conjunctivitis, just because she thought the child 'wanted a bit of a play' and now MY child has conjunctivitis and SO DO I!

I don't think YABU to take her, as you said nurseries allow children back after 1 day on drops. Also after 3 days, isn't it better? Talk about MN over reaction.

I wouldn't take an ill 18month old to a party, do something lovely in the house instead.

Apart from anything, else all the other parents will see your Dd's sticky red eyes and give you evils for the whole party so I wouldn't go on that basis alone! Grin

At 18mths they live in the moment, and she will not be looking forwards to, or even realise that she is missing a party. YABU to take her and risk this being passed to the others.

History - over reaction, really? Are you for real? I'm all for not wrapping kids up in cotton wool and that they should get dirty etc but I would be incredibly pissed off with any parent who thought it ok to bring their highly contagious child to somewhere like a soft play centre - very selfish of the parent.
