Finished letting property on Tuesday , although we moved over 2 weeks ago. We also dropped the keys off at their office on Saturday ( 30 min drive away ) as the helpful lady said we should put them in the post in a jiffy bag, which I wasn't comfortable with .

When we wrote to them to give notice we heard nothing until I called over a week later to see if they had received it. They were a bit vague then started saying how we must let anyone look around within 24 hours.Funnily after that phone call the property then appeared as available on their site!

Anyway after I handed the keys in I was told it would be inspected early this week and I would be called. No phone call, so I called yest was told someone would call today , no call.

I called again was told as far as they know inspection was fine but the person doing it hasn't been able to discuss with landlord so they will have to get back to me after that.

My landlord lives abroad and has always been prompt eg same day on any questions or issues.
House has been cleaned , we always paid on time and there have been no issues but I feel the letting agency treat us poorly. I even showed the new tenants around did a 2nd view as the agency was short staffed ! I know the new tenants have moved in now, the agency knew we were moving before the end of the month so we were hoping to get it inspected while we were there but they wouldn't/ couldn't do it, so we just gave them the keys.

I really need the 1k deposit back shall I keep hassling or should I just wait!

Hassle them. I had to do this with Countrywide Residential lettings.

When I was moving I had to do all the viewing to new tenants. I blitzed the house had the carpets cleaned etc. Trying to arrange for them to do the end of tenancy inspection was a nightmare and I ended up taking a day off work to be there with them.

Just keep hassleing them they need to pull the finger out. I hope you haven't rented another house through them.

I too am really annoyed with letting agency - son moved out of flat 4/12 - landlord came and approved flat same day. Deposit lodged with 'The Deposit Protection Service' at Bristol (Landlord says he was not aware of this, he thought the deposit was with the letting agent) and we are still chasing The Deposit Protection Service for the money back. Landlord has authorised it, I have seen his email to them.
They don't ring back or answer letters.
Should I go to CAB do you think ?

TabithaStillLife · 02/02/2012 16:39

I would Molly , I checked and if landlord and tenant agree , the deposit should be received within 10 days, it says that on CAB however the deposit is looked after.

Just like flightrisk I used to rent from Countrywide and found that the only way to get anything out of them was to hassle them.

Luckily I lived quite close to the office so whenever I had been waiting in vain for someone to ring me back, I used to just walk over there and settle in their reception area with a book. It usually did the trick :o
