To find predictive text mistakes really annoying?

Some of the posts on MN are obviously being taken over by predictive text which the poster hasn't bothered to correct, so sometimes you can't make out what the sentence is trying to say.

For instance - I was walking along the fudge the other soil and it all suddenly went into the cave for some tealeaves Confused sort of thing.

Sometimes it's just the odd word, but it looks messy and it's hard to figure out what the person is actually trying to say. It's the writing equivalent of trying to talk whilst pissed.

Spelling mistakes can be forgiven (mostly), but predictive text is just horrid.

Yes, it seems technology has gone backwards rather than forwards on that score.

Also, the amount of 'realize' and 'neighbors' etc is mildly annoying Blush

YABU

I have given up caring because I would spend my life checking over everything.

Plus in my case it corrects a lot more that it messes up lol

Although I do
Write in
Prose on occasion Grin

YABU & should stick to dial phones & smoke signals if it really bothers you Smile

hiddenhome · 31/01/2012 14:22

Hmm, I think it's unreasonable to have to figure out what someone is trying to say though Hmm It's a bit like listening to a three year old who can't pronounce the odd, but crucially important, word in their sentence.

so don't try - there are millions of posts on MN. Just skip to the next one. You won't lose out on anything imoprtant. I promise!

HipHopOpotomus · 31/01/2012 14:27

(on computer so no predictive txt dammit)

Llanbobl · 31/01/2012 14:29

YABU - most people can work out the gist of the sentence/advice. The human mind is quite adept at making sense out of nonsense Smile
Anyhow, hasn't this been done before (quite recently) but in that instance the OP was complaining about typing errors/corrections on smartphones (can't link as I am on my phone)

MardyBra · 31/01/2012 14:30

They make me feel a bit I'll. Grin

Ilovedaintynuts · 31/01/2012 14:33

YABU - I have the mental age of about 9 and find them quite funny Smile

hiddenhome · 31/01/2012 18:44

Bah, I had disappointed. You all have low standards Grin

I'm an editor and I do find it annoying, but also do love the amusing ones. Sometimes it is quite revealing about which words the poster uses frequently!

diddl · 31/01/2012 20:28

Do people not check as they are posting then?

Some of the predictions are so far wrong!

scarletforya · 31/01/2012 20:29

YABU

I find it quite funny and you can usually guess what it's supposed to be!

diddl · 31/01/2012 20:31

Why don´t posters bother to alter them?

Mandy2003 · 31/01/2012 20:41

Llanbobl the blood-taker at the Doc's surgery has an interesting poster on her wall. It is quite a long statement of how the human brain decodes words and the whole thing is written without vowels. It makes perfect sense when read though!

WillCrossThatBridge · 31/01/2012 20:42

YABU - predictive text/autocorrect is a source of endless joy and here is the entertaining and amusing proof

Irishchic · 31/01/2012 21:36

Why can't people just switch off this function on their phones? The predicted word is always wrong anyhow!
