Well it depends on if you just "like" a drink or if you "need" a drink.

It doesnt sound excessive to me but then I dont know how many units is recommended per week and how many units you are having.

If you are over the recommended units then cut back a bit and if not, and you are not dependant on it, then dont worry! I cant imagine you are pissed on 2 cans...............

LaurieFairyCake · 30/01/2012 15:55

That's only 16 units a week, well within the safe limits - added to which it's not binge drinking as you don't drink it all at once.

Cheers!

WorraLiberty · 30/01/2012 15:55

Sounds fairly normal to me

Some people like to drink, some like to eat a lot of chocolate, some like to smoke.

We all have various vices and none of them are particularly healthy but ok in moderation.

WorraLiberty · 30/01/2012 15:56

...well apart from smoking I meant Blush

lucky4 · 30/01/2012 15:57

Lol no perfectly sane on 2 cans..just look forward to those few nights a week to having a drink..dont miss the drink the nights I dont drink

'well within the safe limits'? It's 14 units for a women per week.

Wittsend13 · 30/01/2012 15:57

I used to drink the same but in wine. I personally found that by telling people, I was opening the flood gates for their opinion that I've a drinking problem.

And whenever I disagreed, I was told that's all alcoholics say they can stop...

I very much enjoy a drink when I can and as I long as can stop when I want too, Then I don't see a problem. YANBU

LaurieFairyCake · 30/01/2012 16:22

Redyam - that was true up to 1987, it is now 2-3 per day - so 21 units a week for women.

Info on Nhs website.

heresiarch · 30/01/2012 16:55

The NHS also recommends not drinking on some days every week so really 21 units would be too much.

But it sounds like lucky4 doesn't drink every day anyway so I don't think she's got a problem.

squeakytoy · 30/01/2012 17:30

Sounds perfectly fine to me. If you were posting about your DH, you would be told he was an alcoholic though.... Wink.

somedayma · 30/01/2012 20:41

Im the same. And have also had the 'all alcoholics say they can stop' speech Confused

cheekyseamonkey · 30/01/2012 21:07

It is 14 units per week for women & recommended not to regularly exceed 2-3 per day. Standard can is 2 units. Just saying.

Helltotheno · 30/01/2012 22:22

So op on 4 nights a week, you have 2 cans and you never have any more than that, say at the weekend?

FabbyChic · 30/01/2012 22:24

YOu do drink more than you should, and drinking to relax to be honest is using alcohol as a crutch, you should be able to relax without drinking.

ILoveOnionRings · 30/01/2012 22:29

I don't think you have a problem -if you wanted to test yourself go without for a couple of weeks and see how you get on. DH has a beer a few nights of the week because he likes to not because he needs to and he doesn't have a problem.

Are you sure it is not because you are having a 'couple of cans' that others think it is a problem whereas if it was a large glass of wine it wouldn't seem to be an issue. Or am I looking at it wrong Confused

K999 · 30/01/2012 22:33

I think the daily recommended intake is at , most 3 units a day....so you're perfectly fine! Grin

And if they're recommending it, who are we/you/I to say they're wrong? Wink

lucky4 · 31/01/2012 06:38

The reason I asked on here was that after talking to some other mums some said they would only drink if they went out etc..I as I said would drink 2 cans of beer on 4 nights of the week(8 cans a week) the other 3 nights I dont drink..do look forward to those nights when I can have a drink and the nights I dont I am happy with my cup of tea!Never drink more than 2 cans, never touch spirits or wine..am hoping I am not going over the recommended limit though

I don't like beer from cans, I swear it tastes better from a bottle :)

OneHandFlapping · 31/01/2012 08:53

If you are worried you could change from cans to bottles. I think most cans are 440mls, and the bottles are 275-330mls, depending on brand. You might find that you still feel you are having two things, and that the smaller quantity is enough.

Or even have one 500ml bottle, but pour it into a 250ml glass, so you get two glasses.

The other thing to do is to drink the weakest beer you can bear the lack of taste of.

Smellslikecatspee · 31/01/2012 10:08

Sounds fine to me.

Actually sound like a healthy attitude, you see your drink as a treat not a must have.

WilsonFrickett · 31/01/2012 10:18

I would be asking the other women how much they drink on their nights out and how often before I worried about their opinions. Binge drinking is much worse than controlled, regular drinking (that doesn't go over the recommended units).
