to think we should not take breathing for granted

I have had a stinking head cold for the last 3 days. I can't breathe through my nose and my glands are enormous and painful. Not being able to breathe comfortably makes me incredibly tired, and to cap it all off DH and I had the DDs' joint birthday party today...

Right now I don't care about anything except being able to breathe normally again...

Bowl of very hot water, olbas oil in the water, towel over you and water. Hope you feel better soon though :)

Shutupanddrive · 28/01/2012 19:22

Oh yes especially when your trying to get to sleep! I dont know how DP sleeps with his mouth open without getting a dry mouth, hope you feel better soon

Tried sudafed - nada. Olbas Oil and water - great, except the efects only last about half an hour. The only thing that helps is that Sinex mist that is full of amphetamines, it actually lets me get a solid 8 hours of a night - but I won't use it during the day as it's bad for the mucous membranes and I want to let them recover a bit, so I spend the day not breathing and getting more and more tired.

Can someone please invent a cure for the common cold?

you can buy nasal drops from the chemist which is the best product EVER for clearing a blocked nose

rhondajean · 28/01/2012 20:40

We have menthol crystals, you put them in hot water, they really help, but you do need to redo every hour or so. I think you can get them at the chemists, DHs last workplace had a private nurse who gave him a massive supply, but I can heartily recommend, though they can be pretty strong.

rhondajean · 28/01/2012 20:41

Sorry wasn't clear - you inhale the steam.

WorraLiberty · 28/01/2012 20:49

Sod your mucas membranes, they'll grow back...just take the Sinex in the day Smile

MrsWifty · 28/01/2012 21:01

Nose strips! Superdrug does an own brand version that's half the price too. You look like a twazzock, but who cares if you can breeeathe Grin

pointythings · 28/01/2012 21:01

I would, worra only the blinking stuff is so effective it dries everything up, not just my nose - so I end up with a dry mouth and sore throat and gritty eyes. I just can't win.

However, on a more positive note, I actually now have a nostril which is working at about 60% capacity which means I don't have to mouth breathe Smile.

Eat my immune system, viruses (or something)!!!
