Cheating???

What is the definition of cheating, sort of need to get it clear in my head really. I always thought that cheating was any kissing or touching or sleeping together. Someone said to me that oh but he only kissed her so he didnt really cheat. What is everyone elses opinion? AIBU to think that cheating is cheating whether or not they slept together?

I think it depends on the couple and the individual really.

In my case, kissing would certainly count as cheating for me and for my OH.

I also do believe in "emotional cheating" where things are being confided etc in a new, exciting person rather than in the partner.

So no, YANBU overall but if the person was saying that it was her OH who "only kissed" and she does not consider that cheating then she is NBU either!

cheating is in the intent. If you consider it cheating then it was cheating.

It's about emotional investment. Sexting, webchats, or something more physical, it's degrees of betrayal, but betrayal nonetheless.

I always think a good barometer is whether or not it is something you would happily do in front of your partner so for me yes, kissing would cross the line.

She was saying, he says he only kissed them (3 OW) and had sexual contact, so he doesnt feel he cheated, she is devastated by it and isnt sure whether to stick it out or leave.

Agree with KarenJones that if he wouldn't have done it in front of his partner, then it was cheating.

I think the same about sexting or emotional infidelity. If you are telling someone else intimate things that you should be discussing with your partner and know that they wouldn't be happy with what you are saying/doing, then that's cheating too.

i would consider it cheating. i would also consider infidelity if there were; sexual conversations on email, internet forums or txt and any kind of swapping of 'intimate' photos etc.

Kissing is definitely cheating

I don't consider kissing cheating TBH, however if you are in a relationship you have to decide at the start what you do/don't consider cheating and if you are in disagreement with your partner then I think you have to go with whoever sets the bar highest (i.e. if 1 considers kissing cheating and the other doesn't then for that relationship kissing is cheating IYSWIM).

If this woman considers kissing cheating, then yes it was cheating.

Everyone has their own boundaries.

In my book I would be incandescent if my OH kissed another woman.

I always used to think that kissing didn't count as cheating, but some time over the last few years my opinion seems to have changed.

I would be a furious ball of rage if DP kissed or had any sexual contact with anyone else and would find it very hard to ever forgive. I just asked him and he reckons he'd forgive me if I kissed another man but not if I slept with them.
