As some of you already know, I've got body issues etc. Have suffered with eating disorders in the past and partner is really helpful towards my self-esteem.

I'm joining a gym. We've budgeted for it, my mum is going to help out to the tune of £10 a month and DP is going to take one class a week with me because it's only £3.50 a time if you aren't subscribed.

I used to be a VERY active person. Ran twice a day, choreographed dance routines, taught hip-hop and freestyle dance at a local theater group, would cycle to wherever I needed to get to and did karate.

My current gym schedule is as follows:
Monday - Fitness class 10-11am, Gym floor 11-12pm, Circuits 12-12:45.
Tuesday - Zumba 7-8pm
Wednesday - OFF
Thursday - Zumba 7-8pm, Kickboxing 8-9pm (DP will join me for Kickboxing)
Friday - Nighttime gym floor - 9-10pm
Saturday - OFF
Sunday - Spin class 11-11:45am, Ab workout class 11:45-12:15pm

I think that's pretty relaxed considering what I used to do and considering that I actually wanted to do far more classes but DP vetoed it because he thought I was taking on too much.

He still thinks I'm taking on far too much and that I should take it slowly for the first few weeks. But I'm absolutely raring to get back into the swing of things. I've hated being sat at home with only Just Dance on the Wii to break up the boredom, so I think he's being unreasonable. Especially since I've already hacked and chopped my schedule down to half of what I wanted to do!

So am I being unreasonable or is he?

That sounds like a heck of a lot to be perfectly honest!

StealthPenguin · 11/01/2012 09:16

Damn. I'll remove the nighttime gym workout on the Friday?

Eh sorry I think your DH is right If you're not super fit at the moment a schedule like that is likely to totally wear you out. You also run a high risk of injuring yourself. Do you have a tendency to ask too much of yourself?

Ihatecbeebies · 11/01/2012 09:19

I agree with your dh, you should take it slowly to begin, there's no reason why you shouldn't do more classes once you are in the swing of things again if you are able to but I think you should start off a bit slower. As you say you've only been doing just dance on the wii at home so you should ease yourself into a more tougher regime

bagelmonkey · 11/01/2012 09:19

That sounds like a lot to me.
One class per day and two rest days per week would be what I'd suggest given a history of eating disorder etc. It's very easy to become addicted to exercise & go down that path again.

DoesNotGiveAFig · 11/01/2012 09:19

Sorry, I don't know you, but, do you work? How do you fit all this in around work and daily life?

KatyMac · 11/01/2012 09:19

When did you last exercise properly?

bagelmonkey · 11/01/2012 09:20

No reason why you cant increae when it all get too easy, as long as you up your intake accordingly.

CailinDana · 11/01/2012 09:20

I would say: cut out the gym on Monday and just rest or go for a gentle swim between class and circuits, do only one activity on Thursday and perhaps replace one gym session with a long walk?

otchayaniye · 11/01/2012 09:22

your post screams 'addiction'

Mi4 · 11/01/2012 09:23

Agree with your DH, sorry!

Could you do a day on a day off? Important to have rest days in between especially when you are doing 3 sessions in a day not just one.

StealthPenguin · 11/01/2012 09:24

DoesNotGiveAFig - I'm a SAHM, gym is a 10-min walk from my house. DP works part-time and has been complaining about not spending enough father-son time with DS so my gym activity fits nicely around his schedule :)

CailinDana - that sounds like a good plan. How does this sound?

Monday - Fitness class 10-11am, Sauna 11-12pm, Circuits 12-12:45.
Tuesday - Zumba 7-8pm
Wednesday - OFF
Thursday - Kickboxing 8-9pm (DP will join me for Kickboxing)
Friday - OFF
Saturday - OFF
Sunday - Spin class 11-11:45am, Ab workout class 11:45-12:15pm

I think it looks fine but I would drop one thing on the Monday. Two hours of fitness is enough. You have two rest days which is fine.

Make sure you're diet reflects the level of activity, plenty protein to help your muscles repair :)

DoesNotGiveAFig · 11/01/2012 09:26

Ah I see! I do agree with your DH though, don't over do it straight away! Build it up, you don't want to hurt yourself and end up not being able to go for a while! The new schedule sounds ok.

BistoBear · 11/01/2012 09:27

your not you're Blush

StealthPenguin · 11/01/2012 09:28

KatyMac - I kept running up until I hit 5 months and I could barely stand up straight thanks to the nerves in my legs and my ever-changing centre of gravity. So I think the last time I went for a proper run was early last year. March? Something like that. And I only stopped because my DP made me. I would have kept going out of sheer stubbornness lol!

StealthPenguin · 11/01/2012 09:30

BistoBear - part of the special offer my gym has at the moment is if you sign up in January you get a full day's induction. You also get to speak to their qualified personal trainers who will listen to what you want to change e.g. muscle tone, firm up wobbly bits etc. and will then construct a diet plan and (if necessary) an exercise plan too!

So don't need to worry about my diet!

Personally, I'd get a job if I had so much time on my hands, rather than raise a family on half a salary.

But that's just me.

Personally, I'd keep my fucking judgy-pants mouth shut about matters that have absolutely nothing to do with what someone is asking,

But that's just me. Grin

You can't beat a good book and a nice cup of coffee.

NonnoMum · 11/01/2012 09:40

I'm not judging.

I'm envious.

BistoBear · 11/01/2012 09:40

Sounds good! When I have time, I do double classes and it's great. You are completely fucked exhausted by the end but you go home feeling amazing. I would go with your plan and then increase to double classes as your fitness improves. Once the lighter nights and nicer weather comes you could cycle/walk/run to add a bit of variety. :)

EnjoyResponsibly · 11/01/2012 09:42

SP I read your post yesterday.

I understand youve got ants in your pants, but that schedule looks a bit full on and high impact. Looking at the nature of the classes too, will it address your tummy issues?

One of the MNers yesterday suggested pilates, can any of your classes be substituted for that instead?

Serenitysutton · 11/01/2012 09:43

Do something on either the Friday or sat and cut out the Sunday class- otherwise you're having two consequtive days, with Monday being your hardest.

Are you anorexic?
