To refuse to help DH take the christmas decorations down tonight

I wanted the Christmas decorations down on Monday/Tuesday before the kids started back at school. DH insisted they come down today. I've been out all day as planned. AIBU to insist he takes everything down as I had time on Monday and Tuesday to do it and I'm too shattered to do it tonight. I bet he won't do it tonight and therefore it will get left for me to do during next week. I will just leave them up until he does them.

YANBU. Stand firm but be prepared to still have a Christmas tree at Easter.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 06/01/2012 18:25

YANBU. But as Turps says, your tree may still be standing when Christmas comes around again.

SauvignonBlanche · 06/01/2012 18:27

YANBU to refuse to help but I'm with your DH for leaving them until Christmas is over
I hate taking them down and was delighted to come home and found DH and DS had done it all. Grin

cocoachannel · 06/01/2012 18:31

YANBU, but to be honest I'd have stood my ground earlier on the week!

aldiwhore · 06/01/2012 18:33

YANBU.

Tanith · 06/01/2012 18:37

I think it's Twelfth Night tonight. Decorations are supposed to stay up until then and it's bad luck if the decorations are still up tomorrow.

So, if you are superstitious, YABU; if you couldn't give a turkey's craw about all that guff, YANBU.

YANBU.

I took all ours down on Tuesday (including 5 trees!!) and I don't think DH has actually noticed yet.

MilitaryWag · 06/01/2012 18:47

Grin NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes.... Please explain. Glad I'm not the only one. My silent battle was over the bathroom bin.

TwoPinkShoes · 06/01/2012 18:47

Yanbu! In this house, DH has just walked in from work and has instantly been given the task of taking everything down with 'help' from the DCs.

You would have been very unreasonable to take them down before Christmas is actually over though Grin But by all means use the argument you'd have had then down sooner if you wish - but why not jut ask with no reason?

MrsSnaplegs · 06/01/2012 18:49

I am currently stood in the kitchen whilst DH does ours again he insisted on leaving them upGrin
I get the "pleasure" of wrapping all the tree decs tomorrowSad

lookbutdonttouch · 06/01/2012 18:50

For those that don't know the story of the silent shampoo bottle battle or if it hasn't yet been shared in the mumsnet arena, could it please be repeated? !

Re decorations I took all ours down days ago, was tempted to 'disappear' the cards on boxing day! However, he wanted to leave them till today so leave him to it. I would get the boxes out and wish him good luck and hot foot it to a long hot bath.

Yanbu OP, if he likes the tradition, then he will abide by it Smile

Last year, I gave ds some money in the garden centre and told him to choose us some nice decorations. He blew it all on one giant bauble (football size).

This stayed up until about February, after which it lived in and around the living room floor. I put it up again this year and after discussing (and discovering) twelfth night, we've decided it might as well stay up for another year - I hope this isn't bad luck? It wasn't a great year tbh.

I might take it down actually.

Tanith

Twelfth Night is 5 January. Count the days from the first - 25 December - and the twelfth one is .....? Decorations etc should have come down yesterday.

ninkynonker · 06/01/2012 19:08

That's what I thought Mabel! I thought I'd been scrooge like taking them down yesterday for a minute.

mothmagnet · 06/01/2012 19:15

According to the Julian calendar it's 24th December today, so we're ok.

edwinbear · 06/01/2012 20:29

I agree, Twelfth night was last night, but it appears there is some confusion over when it actually is. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/4126725/Christmas-ends-in-confusion-over-when-Twelfth-Night-falls.html

(article written in 2009 so the days of the week relate to 2009 not this year).

pranma · 06/01/2012 20:48

YABU it is said to be unlucky to take decs down before 12th Night.

pranma · 06/01/2012 20:49

Jan 6th is the Feast of the Epiphany and if you have a Christmas Crib and have been moving the Three Kings closer each day then they should arrive at the crib this morning after which deccies may be safely removed :)
