Saw the Celia Birtwell pushchair online in the JL sale,£70,half-price. Dithered for a week, then went to local JL store yesterday to check it out. Looked fine so asked about it but out of stock,so went home and ordered online. It arrived this afternoon,so very pleased. Looked at it on their site this evening and it's now £42!! Feel sick. Do you think the store assistant had any idea it was being reduced again today? why do I feel so cheated!!

order another and return the higher priced one.

grograg · 05/01/2012 22:26

send it bak and order it again, wha does it matter if the sales assistant knew? you didnt buy from the store?

MerylStrop · 05/01/2012 22:27

Ring them up and tell them

This happened to me with a winter coat last year

Paid full price in the shop

Online later was reduced by 40%

Rang them and they refunded me the 40%

It's worth a try.

MerylStrop · 05/01/2012 22:27

Store assistant wouldn't have known.

Clawdy · 05/01/2012 22:33

grograg I had a long discussion about the pushchair with him,and he checked his computer when he told me they had none in stock. He said he could order it for me but it would mean picking it up from the store(it's miles away). He agreed it might be easier to order it online.

As others have said - either return it for a full refund and order again (distance selling regulations give you complete right to do this) or phone JL up and explain and tell them you're going to do it if they don't refund the difference.

COCKadoodledooo · 05/01/2012 22:37

What chocolatespiders said.

I also feel cheated by them because they've fucked up delivery of my order. They've tried twice to deliver it to the wrong address, and I waited in all day today for it to be delivered here. By 6pm it still hadn't arrived, so I called the courier company who assured me it has indeed been delivered today. But they have no fucking idea where Angry

I won't hear a word against John Lewis this week. I discover fleece lined tights in Waitrose on Monday, and they are divine. YABU.

But you should phone them and threaten to do the sending back thing.

OhTheConfusion · 05/01/2012 22:47

Fleece lined tights? Wow!

OhTheConfusion · 05/01/2012 22:50

P.s, what is unreasonable is the price of the matching changing bag! £42 for stroller and £50 for bag Hmm

naturalbaby · 05/01/2012 22:53

fleece lines tights?!? waitrose is getting a visit from me tomorrow.
i used to have a Monsoon loyalty card and they refunded money if something i bought went in the sale within so many days, so put the JL customer services to the test and see what happens.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 05/01/2012 22:55

They are so cosy! Like heaven for cold legs. They were a tenner, but worth it!

NoVeggiesBeforeSkeggies · 05/01/2012 22:59

As mentioned already, order another and return.
YAB a little U, but totally understand.

I had to fight the urge to buy that earlier- despite having no child of pushchair age!
Forty two pounds! Bargainous.

I am turning into my grandma.
"Might come in useful one day"

chocolatespiders · 05/01/2012 23:08

me to I am thinking I could buy one to store in my loft until the grandchildren arrive..... Hopefully no time soom dd is 14 Shock

Skelacia · 05/01/2012 23:17

They have fleece lined tights in Primark for £3.50 a pair. I have toasty warm legs and nothing to add to the original discussion, except that I'd be annoyed too OP.

Clawdy · 06/01/2012 09:08

John Lewis, all is forgiven!! Rang their customer services ten minutes ago and a charming young man agreed to refund me the difference! Back to being my favourite store.. Thanks for all the helpful posts. Smile

Im off to buy my fleece lined tights!

redwineformethanks · 06/01/2012 11:28

I won't hear a word against John Lewis. Knew they would come up trumps

WilsonFrickett · 06/01/2012 11:31

I have held my breath reading down the thread - couldn't bear it if my beloved John and Lewis effed up (That's what DS calls them as he has both in his class). Glad it's all sorted OP, phew!

Off to google fleece lined tights - don't they make your legs look chunky though?

loosyloo · 06/01/2012 11:34

online prices can often be different to store prices

Scholes34 · 06/01/2012 13:25

When we moved out of London I told DH I'd live anywhere, as long as they had a John Lewis. Fortunately, he chose his new job well.

WowOoo · 06/01/2012 13:32

Scholes, a JOhn Lewis not too far away was one of my requirements also!

Glad it all worked out Clawdy.

They recently refunded me for an item I didn't have the receipt for and was now on sale. I didn't think I'd stand a chance, but showed a bank statement and hey presto!

MamaGeekChic · 06/01/2012 13:53

Glad you got it sorted! And thanks for the post- i just ordered one!!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 06/01/2012 13:59

Was just going to say shouldnt see why they wouldnt refund you, we do it for customers at Early Learning Centre. But see you've already got your refund!

(We never know what is going to go on promotion until the email comes through, we then action it for the same day)

Red2011 · 06/01/2012 14:15

I don't think the shop assistant would have known about the sale - shop floor staff are usually not kept informed ahead of time on these things.
I had excellent service from JL recently; my elderly Aunt & Uncle wanted to buy a gift for DD that she could 'treasure'. I saw on the website that you could order at JL and get delivery to your local Waitrose. However, when I tried to do this, the option wasn't there. Spent half an hour on the phone to a lovely girl in customer services who managed to put the order through (not for pick up at WR as apparently that option was withdrawn over the Christmas period), but she arranged for me to have it delivered within 2 working days and waived the delivery charge in light of the website not being updated with the correct information when I was looking at it.
