I always thought their footwear was good quality and so I didn't mind paying the extra... I got my DH to buy me their 'Shona' boots for my 40th birthday the other month for £180 only to find the exact same boots in Soletrader for £49 this week (in the sale, original price £135).

They are under a different name in Soletrader but are the very boots I was bought from Jones, am so Angry !!!!

I feel a bit stupid now, can't really afford it but it was my 40th.... What did the poster a whil eback mean when they said Jones is a shop for asperational middle classes wannabes?

Jones = bland. I spend a lot on footwear (the kind of money I'd get flamed for on here) but would never give them £180 of my cash for their poor attempts at naice shooos.

RainbowSheep · 05/01/2012 19:31

Where would you get nice ones from? These weren't too bland, they were kind of biker boots lined with shearling... umm..

I'm sorry rainbow, that sounded mean. I just find their shoes don't look like anything special to deserve the price tag they command, and nor do they feel or fit particularly differently to much cheaper shoes from say office, Bertie, dune, kirt Geiger, Kate kuba... Not seen your boots obviously but their work shoes make me yawn and their party shoes look like work shoes with a bit of patent or a bow on. Remind me of my clarks ones as a kid!

RainbowSheep · 05/01/2012 19:40

I agree with you coral, I've never seen anything I particularly like in there until these ones. I always assumed the pricetag meant they were superior quality but I have seen the light!

Jones has really gone downhill in recent years.

thepeoplesprincess · 05/01/2012 19:50

I feel your pain but in all honesty you were a fool not to spend 30 secs on Googling a price comparison. Sorry.

RainbowSheep · 05/01/2012 19:54

They have different names, in Jones they are 'shona' and in soletrader 'spitfire' but they are the same boot, I was really surprised!!

But you haven't said they are inferior quality rainbow, just that an 'identical' item is being sold by a different brand name in a different retail outlet. You don't know what the reasons are behind this. The other boots you have seen could be a copy or could be surplus stock being sold off at knock down prices by the manufacturer.

rhondajean · 05/01/2012 19:57

I used to buy lots from jones, in sale mostly, they were great for work shoes, but the last few years, like monsoon, there has been less and less I liked no the fits properly.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 05/01/2012 20:08

Don't feel stupid, RainbowSheep, I was just joking really. I guess I was meaning that I put it on a par with brands like Boden.

mariasophia · 05/01/2012 20:17

Yeah Jones are really crap at the mo - used to be great for work / flats - have never ever seen a pair of heels in there that i would buy. I loved my white leather and pink soled mary janes i bought from there years and years ago, i miss them so much. What about Shelley's Shoes ? they had great shoes - fashion mainly but good quality nonetheless, they had a shop in my local high street - now closed but they were a must on a saturday

Icelollycraving · 05/01/2012 20:22

I think yabu. Shops reduce things, some items are available cheaper. I thought from your thread title that someone had been extremely rude or something terrible had happened not just you paid full price for a pair of boots but could have got them cheaper. Puzzled at the over reaction.
