To think that posties should knock and wait rather than opening my front door

And shoving a parcel through?

Admittedly, I do have a porch, and I also didn't have the front door locked.

But it does happen a lot. Really cheeses me off.

AIBU?

I always thought the porch was somewhere for people to stand out of the rain whilst waiting for you to open the door? Even if you don't use it like this, I can understand the postman thinking that you might (especially since you obviously keep it unlocked).

Oakmaiden · 04/01/2012 17:52

Sorry - having reread I now want to double check - the postman comes into the porch and then opens the door to the house and puts the parcel inside?

Or does he open the door to the porch and leave the parcel in the porch?

Chundle · 04/01/2012 17:52

Where I used to,live postie used to open my actual front door and throw parcel into my living room :O

IslaMann · 04/01/2012 17:54

You're lucky. My postie doesnt even bother to knock. He just shoved a card thru and I have to go to the sorting office to collect it myself. Angry

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/01/2012 17:54

My postie opens the back door (farmhouse, everyone uses that door) and puts the parcel inside. Fine by me.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 04/01/2012 17:56

It wouldn't bother me at all if our postman did that. Would far rather that than them assuming we weren't in and putting a card through the door for us to go and collect the parcel.

NettoHoHoHoSuperstar · 04/01/2012 17:56

Mine opens front door and puts the parcel in.
He did ask me if it was OK first though.

Flisspaps · 04/01/2012 17:57

If he's opening the porch door and leaving the parcel in the porch, YABU.

If he's standing in your porch and opening your main front door to put your parcel in your actual house, then YANBU. This can be remedied by sticking a chain on the door or leaving it locked.

Gumby · 04/01/2012 17:58

I'd be happy! Far better than trekking miles to collect the parcel

PippiL · 04/01/2012 18:03

Ok, I am just being a grumpy sod :-)

All good points, at least he doesn't leave stuff outside in the rain to get wet!

My postman has actually come to my place of work to give me a parcel rather than leave it outside. Smaller packages he puts through the cat flap into the kitchen!

PippiL · 04/01/2012 18:18

I used to get some just propped against the front door, in plain view!

There was a thread recently about peeing in the PO. I was impressed by that and I'm impressed by this too, the post office is really going that extra mile when it comes to customer service.

bobbledunk · 04/01/2012 22:32

If your leaving the door unlocked then that is surely an invitation? Lock your door if you have a problem with people opening it.Hmm

AgentProvocateur · 04/01/2012 22:35

Mine opens the door and leaves the parcel
on the draining rack. I'm vet grateful that I don't have to schlep down to the sorting office to collect my parcels.

Mandy2003 · 04/01/2012 22:36

My postie knocks on the door, shouts and throws the parcels into the living room if I have both doors propped open Smile

Lueji · 04/01/2012 22:39

Lock the door!

I also used to get the card without the knock, particularly when I lived in a flat.

startail · 04/01/2012 22:52

If it's shut but not locked my door comes open if you lean hard.
Dear postie if this happens please pull it shut. I know no one can see my door from the road, but it lets lots of freezing cold inAngry

cwtch4967 · 05/01/2012 13:13

I have a porch - I lock the inner door into the house but the porch door is usually unlocked and deliveries are left there out of sight. Works well for me and our postman!
