To wish the postman could just deliver post

I know they have no choice but today the postman delivered:
Pizza menu
Virgin tv promo stuff
Direct line leaflet
Salvation army charity bag
Fairway furniture brochure

And not one actual piece of post.

It must be quite annoying for them as well. They have to cart this shit from house to house. No wonder my post doesn't turn up till lunch time.

They get paid extra for delivering junk mail.
Complain to your postman directly.

mrsjay · 04/01/2012 12:58

I think royal mail get extra money for delivering this junk , today i got pizza vouchers , farmfoods leaflet an other brochure for the shopping centre , all rubbish and straight into the recycling .Hmm

mrsjay · 04/01/2012 12:58

oh and i got 1 of those for the householder letters i think it was for insurance ,

RatherBeACyborg · 04/01/2012 12:58

I should hope they do! I rarely see my postman, I'm usually out when he turns up. I registered with the mail preference service but it hasn't made any difference.

Currently you have to register with three different places, all listed on the Stop Junk Mail site, but there should be a single location coming soon.

Doesn't stop it all, but does reduce it.

Complaining to your council might also help considering many councils sell electoral details onto junk mail companies.

RatherBeACyborg · 04/01/2012 13:04

Thanks for the link FFG.

Neshnosher, I'm sure I opted out of that as well. Maybe not though.

I complained to the chief exec of royal mail about this. Because they are paid to deliver it, the 'no junk mail' signs can be ignored. The mail preference service means that companies cannot target you directly, but does not deal with junk mail being delivered by the post man. There is, unless the law changes, literally nothing which can be done. It is, I think, outrageous.

neshnosher · 04/01/2012 13:07

Wasn't there a campaign to send all the junk mail back at one time?
To the council offices I mean?

stopjunkmail · 10/03/2019 09:50

It should be a free national service to stop junk mail arriving at home but there's free advice available on the blog at Stop Junk Mail

bridgetreilly · 10/03/2019 09:54

I only get junk mail if there's actual post as well. If there's no real letters, the postman doesn't bother putting anything through. It's still annoying, but it does help a bit.

PandaPolarBear · 10/03/2019 10:11

Google 'royal mail door to door opt out'.

There's a form to fill in that stops unaddressed mail (junk) for two years.
Complaining directly to the postie is a pointless waste of time... they don't get a choice and failure to deliver it is something they can lose their jobs for.
