I have a huge problem with shoes... im a size 7.5 so have larger than adverage feet and they are wide. I have always also had problems with shoes wearing out quickly - i have always tended to buy cheaper shoes.

This time - My boots from next wore about in about 4 months... holes in the bottom, so I had to buy new boots. I decided to spend a more than usual and bought a pair in Marks and spencers for £80. I was so please - they fit perfectly and keep my feet toasty warm. I though - these will last me a few winters I think...

Only this morning I go to put them on and find a split in the seem on the top - not even a part that has contact with ground! Im so so sad.

They lasted 1 Week!!!!

Give me a biscuit if you want - I just HATE buying shoes!!!!!!

M&S have never been the same since they sacked all their northern British manufacturers and outsourced to the East. No 'give' in the material, seams and hems just plain shoddy, the cut is dire. Haven't shopped in there for about 12 years now. It's cheap tat sold with expensive lighting.

TidyDancer · 27/12/2011 17:58

YABU if you actually go and kick off. YANBU to take the boots back.

Orchidskeepdying · 27/12/2011 18:05

Yeah you're right tidy - I'll go and take them back tomorrow - just means more shoe shopping that I CBA to do....

Really Trois - I just assumed that they would be decent shoes. Especially for that price - I expected them to last more than a week...

FWIW, I would be furious too, if boots that I paid £80 for only lasted 1 week.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 27/12/2011 18:09

Buy Clarke's Orchid - I need at least a 9 and sometimes a 10 because my feet are unfeasibly fat swollen on top and very wide. I have got a pair of Clarkes that I have had three years now, wear them whenever the weather is bad/cold/wet, and they are only just starting to wear down a bit on the sole on one side where I must put the most of my not inconsiderable weight on. They are even comfortable enough to wear without socks. I practically cried when I realised I was going to have to give in and get "granny shoes" but they are the most comfortable footwear I ever had. They were about £45 iirc too, so not bank breaking and cheaper in the long run than a new pair a month that drop to bits.

Bunbaker · 27/12/2011 18:11

I'm sure M and S will be happy to exchange the boots. You don't need to kick off about them though. I have worked in the service industry for many years and you will find that if you are pleasant and polite you are far more likely to get a friendly apology and the result you want. There is no need to be rude.

MrsJangleBalls · 27/12/2011 18:14

YANBU to make a bit of a complaint. Shoes are usually expected to last a reasonable amount of time however much they cost and one week is not reasonable! And eighty quid is not that cheap so I would be a bit annoyed too.

Go and find a really nice pair in Clarks or somewhere, then take the crap pair of boots back to M&S and demand a refund because their quality is so bad! Then at least you'll already have a nice pair in reserve!

dexter73 · 27/12/2011 18:14

I agree with PomBear about trying Clarks. I have size 8 feet and their shoes are very comfortable and last for ages. They have loads of shoes/boots in the sale at the moment (I have bought 3 pairs!!Xmas Grin).

Orchidskeepdying · 27/12/2011 18:17

Eh - Bunbaker - take a joke will you blimey....

Please take back to M&S and they are usually really good on customer service - obv crap at selling good shoes. I doubt they'd question you at all about it.

Can't waste £80!!

ruddynorah · 27/12/2011 18:22

No need to kick off. Just return them.

Orchidskeepdying · 27/12/2011 18:26

As previously stated - im not actually going to kick off!!!!! I will politely return the shoes...

But you should fire off an email to HO complaining about shoddy goods. It's not the fault of the shop staff of course - but the Board should know that there are dis-satisfied customers, and for very good reason.

RaPaPaPumPumBootyMum · 27/12/2011 19:23

Depending how far away the shop is from you it is always a bit of a hassle to have to take faulty items back. As they were shoddy quality and this is the reason for the return [not that you just changed your mind] I would expect a sincere apology and acknowledgment of the trouble they caused you. A discount voucher for subsequent purchase also wouldn't go amiss imo.

madsam · 27/12/2011 19:23

Yeah just return them. This happened to me last year in another shop. They were lovely boots but I have been unable to replace them. Plus it ended up being last present mu mum brought me as she passed away a few months later. Still feel sad about it now.
