Did anyone else dislike it?
I was very confused with the i can cook girl being alladin wearing heels? Actually it was the only bit I watched and gave up
Sadly could not make my daughter stop watching it.

Panto never works on telly, and has been cringingly bad since I were a lass.

Think of its sheer awfulness as another kind of Xmas tradition.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 24/12/2011 21:46

Aladdin was last year's I think. You're watching the repeat. Strickly theme for this year's effort.

They are woeful but every child alive seems to adore them. Which is kind of the point I suppose.

Smokedsalmonbagel · 24/12/2011 21:48

Thought this years was pretty good.

Was written by Chris Jarvis and someone else. Chris can do no wrong in my eyes!

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 24/12/2011 21:52

Really? Then I like it. Lovely Chris.
Wasn't Artem oddly camp though? Weird intonation.

DriverDan · 24/12/2011 23:39

Aladdin was last years and yes, Katie very annoying and what is with the massive heels when she is playing a man Xmas Confused DD loves this years Strictly Cinderella though...

Kewcumber · 24/12/2011 23:50

Ds loves them both (this year and last) and watches them incessantly on catch up and will for many many weeks afetr Xmas

GreenMonkies · 24/12/2011 23:52

The principle boy always is a woman and always wears heels. Often a very short tunic type thing too. Lots of leg on show. Haven't you ever done panto?? Blimey, that's par for the course.

You'll be asking why that bloke was dressed up like a bad drag queen next.....Wink

Robinredboobs · 25/12/2011 00:25

Hmm, yes Katie. She had a really awkward role like the producers had no idea what to do with her. I couldn't figure out who the 2nd ugly sister was? (not Justin)

Hollian · 25/12/2011 00:34

I think 2nd ugly sister was Mr Maker.

Flyingoutofcontrol · 25/12/2011 07:18

Was Mr Maker - hence dancing the "Makerina"...

SanTEEClaus · 25/12/2011 07:26

I quite enjoyed Alladin but thought this year's horrible.

And the principle boy wasn't played by a girl this year so that theory is shot to hell, innit?

GreenMonkies · 25/12/2011 08:00

Well, the principle boy is traditionally played by a girl.

SanTEEClaus · 25/12/2011 10:56

Too late. Xmas Grin

MadameOvary · 25/12/2011 11:30

Oh gawd DD has seen Strictly about 30 times so far. She watches it over and over and over and over and over.

YouOldSlag · 25/12/2011 12:19

YABU OP- they didn't make it for you!

difficulttimes · 26/12/2011 08:53

Justin Fletcher is always fantastic , he could only have been an ugly sister.

sassyminder · 26/12/2011 16:21

Maybe it is because I am not from UK so even though I have british hubby and british in laws and my dd was born in England and we all live here, I will never complete understand pantos ...

OP posts:
ilovedjasondonovan · 26/12/2011 16:29

What about the one before Aladdin, with Jack and Jill?? That was pretty good. This years is shit.

Gigondas · 26/12/2011 16:33

Sassy I am from uk but cant see the appeal. Dd however loves them and has watched the latest one about 12 times (she didn't like aladdin). So I guess that means they hit their audience

WidowWadman · 26/12/2011 16:47

My 3 years old daughter hates it with a passion - she's not even seen much more than the trailer, but as soon as it comes on she starts howling at the top of her voice "THAT'S NOT CBEEBIES!!!! I DON'T WANT TO WATCH THE RADIO!" ("the radio" being her term for anything she finds incredibly dull - probably coined due to her dad listening to Radio4 using the TV in the mornings) and then will sob until I switch to something else or turn the TV off. Yes, she rather has the TV off than the CBeebies Panto on. I've no idea what she finds so upsetting about it.

Gigondas · 26/12/2011 16:51

Grin at the radio... I wish dd also had one of her "this is boring " shouts at it. And your dd is right ... No one needs to see artem trying to act

BertieBotts · 26/12/2011 16:53

Haha, Widow, DS insists on calling anything he doesn't find interesting "An abvert" Grin

I thought it was okay. Once. No idea why they insist on repeating it several times a day. They never put films on CBeebies so could have put it in that slot, it might actually have carried more interest then. If they are worried about little ones being upset because they have missed it, well, 99% of people have some kind of access to catch up services/hdd boxes, etc, surely?
