about a Pavlova?

Ok, so I may have lost my perspective in amongst all this wrapping paper . . .

Going to PIL's for Christmas dinner. About a month ago my MIL asked me to make Pavlova for dessert (FILs favourite). No problem, says I - yesterday purchased cream, strawbs and rasps in the busiest supermarket known to man. She is just off the phone to say she has heard that M&S Millionaire Shortbread Cheesecake is 'out of this world' and has asked another guest to bring one so not to bother with my pavlova.

Is this a little rude? Just me?

A bit rude. Is she normally a PITA?

roundcornsilkvirgin · 23/12/2011 15:29

yes that's rude - did you tell her you'd already bought all the stuff? You could have it on boxing day though and scoff it all yourselves.

ginmakesitallok · 23/12/2011 15:31

Yes rude, but christmas always calls for a few desserts so bring it anyway !

BloooCowWonders · 23/12/2011 15:31

I'd make and take it anyway. You can never have too much pud!

She was probably thinking she was making your life easier if you don't have to make the pavlova.

Build a bridge and get over it.

lilbitmyrrhic · 23/12/2011 15:40

I am over it. Trying to talk my DH out of phoning her to tell her he's heard turkey twizzlers are 'out of this world' and not to bother cooking the turkey!

Its just one wee thing in a few.

Gonna scoff it on boxing day.

I think you can have too many puds at Christmas, so I would use the cream and berries to make ice-cream.

Fisharefriendsnotmincepies · 23/12/2011 15:45

Sorry if that was harsh, just seems like a non issue really. and I just LOVE that expression Xmas Grin

Winkly · 23/12/2011 16:44

I think I like your DH's style Xmas Smile

Pancakeflipper · 23/12/2011 16:46

I like pavlova - bring it my house. Thank you.

WhereMyMilk · 23/12/2011 17:07

Ooh,ooh,ooh. We're having the Millionaire's shortbread thingy :o

WhereMyMilk · 23/12/2011 17:10

Sorry, that's no help. Would love pavlova too, as I am a greedy mare :o

Scholes34 · 23/12/2011 17:17

Bit cheeky. Next time you do a pavlova put a filling of mascarpone cheese with some fromage frais, one tsp of sugar and some vanilla extract in it instead of cream. And if you're doing one for Christmas, pears poached in mulled wine make a nice alternative fruit for the winter.

Winkly · 23/12/2011 17:29

Sorry but pears poached in anything do not make a nice alternative to anything What a waste of mulled wine!

Bunbaker · 24/12/2011 10:12

"Sorry but pears poached in anything do not make a nice alternative to anything"

Yes they do. After all that rich food I would much rather have something light rather than a rich, creamy dessert that will have me reaching for the Gaviscon.
