flat terms and conditions changing after?

I live in a small block of flats which has been converted. Basically on one side there is a house with a family and above us there is a flat which is being used as the office for one person (from the family next door). When we took on the lease we were told it was an office and that they had no intention to change anything. One year on, the landlords want to convert the flat above back into a normal flat.

From time to time people have stayed in the 'office' and it has always been very noisy (much noisier than in any other block of flats I have been in). The building is old and we hear everything (conversations, water running), plus the bathroom is above our bedroom! The landlords seem to have assumed we wouldn't be bothered about this and that they will do the work to convert it whenever they feel like it (including weekends) without informing us. Has this happened to anyone else?

Obviously there's not much we can do or would try to do other than look for somewhere else to live. But pretty unimpressed as if we'd known we wouldn't have chosen to live here in the first place.

Presumably they had pp for it to be a habitable space ? I wonder if the sound proofing is up to the current buildings regualtions but it depends how long ago the work was done as to whether they were in force at that time. If you rent there is probably little you can do tbh and if you complain they could just terminate your lease anyway.

Yeh, they already had PP, and I doubt the regulations are in force. Just a bit pissed off they're expecting us not to be surprised/to find this 'normal' - it will also mean sharing a garden which is currently exclusively ours (!) and having less parking spaces etc. They've also already started on the renovation without even leaving us the time to find somewhere else.

Don't think there's much I can do but just wanted to vent! Sometimes I hate renting!
