Grammar Police

Why do I feel like shooting myself when I see grammatical errors after it is too late to change them. I don't care if anyone else makes mistakes but I wish there was an edit facility as the mistakes are invisible until the send button is pressed.

Then I can see loads. Sad

I too would vote for an edit facility, I seem to have the same problem!

sitandnatter · 20/12/2011 18:44

The you'll get some smart*rse pointing them out but usually making mistakes of their own Grin

Oh me too. I like on FB that you can delete a comment you've made and repost an edited version.

over30sdisco · 20/12/2011 18:44

people will say use preview but i agree with you, even if they had a 5 second edit thing

sitandnatter · 20/12/2011 18:46

Life is too short to preview every message. I still wouldn't see them until I pressed send. Grin

Yep, I hate it when an error changes the whole tone of my comment. And being an apostrophe pedant, seeing my own apostrophe abuses is torturous.

Oakmaiden · 20/12/2011 18:48

I think the reason MN don't let you edit is so you can't take away comments you have already added to a conversation.

A short period after posting in which you are able to do it would be handy though...

sitandnatter · 20/12/2011 19:03

Some sites flag up the post has been editted but then again those sites also repeat the post you are replying to which isn't a tidy way of posting IMO. I dont need reminding of the post that was posted two posts up. Sorry too many posts there. Grin

a 3 second "pull it back" option would be great... its often the split second that you press that "post message" button that you see the glaring error...

Trills · 20/12/2011 19:36

You haven't asked if you are being unreasonable. Therefore YABU.

MangoMonster · 20/12/2011 20:18

Edit facility would be great!

sitandnatter · 21/12/2011 04:35

Perhaps MN will consider it for a Christmas pressie for us. Grin

Some chat rooms have a limited time edit, i would like say a 2 minute timeout.

The one reason I'd be against longer here is I think some people would use it to say some appalling things and then change posts after they have caused hurt/ wrought havoc etc.

sitandnatter · 21/12/2011 08:59

It could certainly be abused but if the post was flagged as edited the game players would soon be spotted. A couple of minutes would do me fine, I can see my mistakes in seconds but only after the send button has been pressed. Sad
