The cold water from the tap upstairs is colder than that from the downstairs tap. AIBU thinking this? Is this the case i every house?

It is in our house! I much prefer a drink of water from the bathroom sink than the kitchen sink.

Methe · 15/12/2011 20:53

The bathroom water comes from a storage tank in the loft. The downstairs water comes from the mains.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/12/2011 20:54

HeadFirst - if you water is coming from the tank in the loft - you really don't want to be drinking it - go and have a look inside your tank if you don't believe me Grin

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 15/12/2011 20:55

I thought all cold water was mains water?

laptopdancer · 15/12/2011 20:57

I not sure if we have a tank in the loft

Not if you have a cold water tank in the loft, it isn't. Ours is mains, but only because I'm renovating the house, and have had the bathrooms replumbed. Before that it had a cold water tank, and we didn't drink the upstairs water.

DartsAgain · 15/12/2011 21:00

We don't have a tank for water in the loft, cold water is mains water, and our combi boiler heats the cold water from the mains for hot whenever we turn the tap on.

Having been at work when the water tanks were being inspected and found to contain legionella disease due to dead pidgeons rotting away, I can say I have never drunk any of their water straight from the tap!

Methe · 15/12/2011 21:00

Most houses have a tank in the loft. Tbh I have always drank.. every night for 30+ years and i'm not dead yet so it must be ok Wink

Methe · 15/12/2011 21:01

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 15/12/2011 21:06

It's much colder from our kitchen sink than it is upstairs.

hiddenhome · 15/12/2011 21:08

dh found a dead pigeon in his parent's water tank once Confused Perhaps it adds to the flavour Grin

troisgarcons · 15/12/2011 21:09

So if you don't "drink" upstairs water - do you take a bottle of evain to brush your teeth with?

olibeansmummy · 15/12/2011 21:09

Our bathroom water is much nicer than our kitchen water too

catsrus · 15/12/2011 21:15

simple test - put your thumb over the tap to stop water coming out when tap is on. if it is from loft tank it will just be coming out under gravity and you can pretty much stop the flow - with mains water you can't, it's coming out under mains pressure and will spurt out around the thumb and drench you Xmas Grin

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/12/2011 21:15

Olibeansmummy - love your typo Grin

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/12/2011 21:16

... or you could just look in the loft Grin

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/12/2011 21:16

My smilie looks naked.

HeadfirstForGabrielsHalo · 15/12/2011 21:22

Nooo, it's definately mains Xmas Grin When I was a kid our street all had tanks and I remember a neighbour finding a manky dead pigeon in his Xmas Shock
