about DH's nuts?

i have just had the most bizarre discussion with DH. Bear in mind we have been together for 16 whole years now.

I have decreed that this year we will have nuts. I like nuts. We never have nuts because he does the shopping.

It transpired that he does not know which nut is which. He has never eaten a Brazil nut Confused

I am off to waitrose to buy him a selection to educate him.

But I don't want them shelled, they don't taste the same.

LadyBeagleBaublesAndBells · 15/12/2011 16:45

Definitely TeWihara, cracking them is part of the fun. You're not being irrational at all.
Shelled nuts are for wusses.

entropyglitter · 15/12/2011 17:25

Brazil nuts contain radium....they get it from the soil.....may or may not be true that if you walked into a nuclear reactor plant with a pocket full of brazil nuts it would set the radiation alarm off....

startwig1982 · 15/12/2011 17:36

Pistachios are the bee's knees as you can suck the salty shells as well as crunching the nuts. Effectively two treats!! Yay! Grin

suburbandream · 15/12/2011 17:42

DH thinks I'm weird because I said shelled brazil nuts remind me of killer whales. kind of whale shaped, and patchy with the darker bits of skin and the pale nut ... anyone else see it? Or maybe I AM just weird Grin

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 15/12/2011 17:44

...macadamia nuts are the toughest nuts to crack! It takes 500lb per square inch to crack one! Grin

G1nger · 15/12/2011 17:46

Nutcrackers are great. I'll eat nuts just to play with a nutcracker. The fact that they're so hard to use is the entire point.

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 15/12/2011 17:46

500lb per square inch of pressure!

entropyglitter · 16/12/2011 09:26

catpuss obviously I am a fan of random nut facts but did you time travel from the 1970's with that one? pounds and inches? Pascals please...or newtons per square meter.

KittyFane · 16/12/2011 11:08

I can't stand DH's nuts. Wrinkly little walnuts are the worst (unless they are pickled).
I like peanuts though.

tinkertitonk · 16/12/2011 11:28

Christ this thread needs highjacking.

That looks weird. Should it be hijacking?

Hmm, they both look weird.

Ilovedaintynuts · 16/12/2011 12:15

Ahhh a thread especially for me Grin

Ifancyashandy · 16/12/2011 12:16

Christmas Eve. I arrive at parents. I place arse on sofa. Father places a large whiskey mac in my hand. Mother places nutcracker in other hand. I wrestle with nutcrackers elegantly place cracked nuts in gob.

Christmas has begun Xmas Grin

knittedbreast · 16/12/2011 12:17

which are the ones that look like brains? i love those.

EdithWeston · 16/12/2011 12:19

"Nutcrackers are usually pretty shite though aren't they?"

Anyone know if anyone is selling the Margaret Thatcher nutcrackers this year? Preferably a shop (so little time for delivery).

GooKingWenceslas · 16/12/2011 12:27

Walnuts are the brain ones.

Dh's family have pickled ones at Christmas. They are terrifying when you have a hangover.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 16/12/2011 12:41

Can anyone tell me what the cashew nuts are that they have in posh bars? Had some recently and didn't think to ask (I'm not usually a nut person). Tried various spicy ones in the shops but they're not right. They were a tiny bit spicy but mostly just savoury.

missmiss · 16/12/2011 12:56

I am allergic to brazil nuts and only brazil nuts. It is very strange.

brighthair · 16/12/2011 13:14

I have a wasabi peanut addiction Blush
Just got some coated pecans from the Market - so much sugar on them but lovely

Oggy · 16/12/2011 14:38

Disappointing thread content based on title

KittyFane · 16/12/2011 14:43

Are nut allergies something people have as children but not so much as adults? In other words, their bodies are intolerant when they are young but this changes as they grow up?
Obviously not in your case missmiss - your post just made me wonder, I have come across many DC with nut allergies and not one adult in RL.

valiumredhead · 16/12/2011 15:11

kitty if you have a tree nut allergy you have it for life according to Guy's allergy clinic.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 16/12/2011 15:14

Allergies in general are fairly complex though. Some get better, some get worse, some stay the same. Probably depends less on what the allergy is and more on the person.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 16/12/2011 15:14

I say 'fairly' they are ridiculously complicated!

BendyBob · 16/12/2011 19:07

I can't find a single Brazil nut in a shell anywhere. Is that to do with the radiation thing then?Confused

I was assuming they were either very popular and everyone had bought them all, or very unpopular and not stocked in the shops anymore.

Either way I'm paranoid enough to think everyone's in on it but me Grin
