To really want to start playing RPGs again?

I am 25 years old and I used to play role playing games (specifically Dungeons and Dragons, or Vampire the Masquerade) when I was in school.

But you know how it is. Life gets in the way. And what were our hobbies get put on the back burner when new and important things demand our attention.

But I have recently been really missing playing these games. They used to be the highlight of my week and I have begun to wonder why I stopped playing them at all.

AIBU to want to play role playing games again? WIBU to dedicate several hours on a week night to playing while leaving my DH at home?

Well my dh does!
As long as your dh gets a night out to , gym, pub etc, then I don't see the harm

ThisIsANickname · 09/12/2011 13:00

What does your DH play?

I would never stop DH from having time to himself, and as it is now he stays after work on Thursdays getting drunk with his colleagues until late. :o

Both me and my dh do this....I came to it in my 30's. Do it.

EmpressOfTheSevenSnowflakes · 09/12/2011 13:50

I played Vampire and AD&D at university :-D mostly playing PBEMs now but I still get to play tabletop occasionally. Definitely do it!

NotJustKangaskhan · 09/12/2011 13:52

Go for it - we have a Pathfinder group over to our place once a week so DH and I can both play (we're the only ones with kids, or a giant table to play on, so it works well for all).

Role a dice- 1-2 you don't, 3-20 you do.

Best of three.

I loved D&D.

extremepie · 09/12/2011 15:57

I play D&D with my husband and his friends every Tuesday night :D I'm a dragonborne cleric and I love it!

mumwithdice · 09/12/2011 16:56

Yay! A gamer thread! OP, you don't live in London, do you?

NotjustKangasKhan, how do you find Pathfinder? DH and I bought it a while back, but we haven't had a chance to play.

Oakmaiden · 09/12/2011 17:06

I have played every week since I was a teenager - met my husband through D&D and most of our friends were gamers. We all used to meet at our house every week.

Until my husband had to move to Wales for work, where we know nobody. I really miss it. I just love the story telling....

mumwithdice · 09/12/2011 17:07

Oh, me too, Oakmaiden, me too. Esp if you have a good GM.

Oakmaiden · 09/12/2011 19:25

I have this really cool idea for a campaign and nobody to play it with :(

pinkhebe · 09/12/2011 19:32

I play with old uni friends on a Thursday, the sessions finish at 11pm rather than 2am Grin but it's still fun.

I too met my husband over a game of ravenloft!

Xnedra · 09/12/2011 19:41

Another gamer here DH and I play tuesday nights with friends. Doing a d&d 3rd ed at the moment, which is weird as we tend to stick with 2nd ed. We do quite a few systems hopefully we'll be doing a Cthullu soon I love that. So do it you'll love getting back to it.

MrsTwinks · 09/12/2011 19:42

yanbu... wish I could do the same but i don't know any rpg'ers nearby. :(

OddBaubles · 09/12/2011 19:45

yanbu, I've been missing AD&D recently having not played for about 11 years. I had an absolutely kickass cleric of Pelor.

MrsChemist · 09/12/2011 19:50

YANBU. I wish I could too. My next door neighbours play descent, but I can't commit to playing regularly, so couldn't join in Sad

They do own many many board games though, and often come round for mini gaming nights.

I especially enjoy this one but we play dice games, card games (munchkin cthulhu is my favourite Grin) board games. It's a nice alternative to a longer game.

lunar1 · 09/12/2011 19:50

what about online games if you dont have time in real life. my mmo game is what gets me through the night feeds

Naoko · 09/12/2011 20:06

Ooh gamer thread! I should be GMing D&D right now but I called it off because I have a bad cold and have lost my voice and feel rubbish. I started playing with the uni society in my first year, met DP there, and never stopped.... I live in a small Welsh town 20 miles north of everything and there isn't much to do, so we play a lot of games - board games, RPG, and online.

Smallstuff · 09/12/2011 20:16

I started RPGs when I was 14 ( AD&D then but have played everything over the years!). Went to Uni and carried on. Met all my boyfriends through it, most of whom are still mates. Played the same MERP campaign once week for 7 years! Long term boyfriend of th.e time was a Tolkein nut! DH not a gamer although he has tried it. Started work and still Managed to play once a week right up until we moved down south with DH's work. Then DC got in way. Between DC2 and 3 I got back together with old school friends and we play a campaign about 4 times a year but do it for N entire weekend staying at each others houses (altho conveniently I cannot host!)...
Had another break whilst DC3 tiny but then got back into it...
I will play anything but prefer fantasy to scifi.... Love middle earth stuff but not playing that at present. Current GM is my first ever boyfriend from when I was 14!
Just get back into it... I wish I could play more often...

BertieBotts · 09/12/2011 20:17

One word... Skyrim.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2011 20:17

Argh I'm a fucking idiot, ignore me! Blush

Smallstuff · 09/12/2011 20:19
